Renovating and retrofitting GRC components on existing buildings is a systematic project more complex than new construction, with its technical key points concentrated in four critical stages: "condition assessment, component repair, connection reinforcement, and appearance restoration." Qinglong Group has extensive experience in the field of GRC renovation for existing buildings; its core technology lies in precise diagnosis and targeted solutions, achieving the recovery of building function and the regeneration of aesthetic value.
The first step in renovation is a comprehensive and detailed condition survey and inspection. The existing damage types, extent, and causes affecting GRC components must be identified. Qinglong adopts a combined method of "visual inspection, tapping, and instrument testing": visual inspection checks surface cracks, spalling, and contamination; tapping identifies internal hollow areas; a rebar scanner is used to locate embedded parts, and a pull-out tester checks whether the anchorage force of embedded parts meets standards. The corrosion condition of the base keels and connectors must also be assessed. This detailed "inspection report" is the foundation for formulating a renovation plan.
Targeted repair technology is the core. For non-structural cracks, low-pressure grouting technology can be used to inject specialized repair mortar. For locally damaged or hollow areas, chiseling down to the solid substrate is required, followed by repair with polymer-modified mortar matched to the performance of the old GRC; where necessary, stainless steel anchors are added or carbon fiber sheets are bonded for reinforcement. For severely damaged components that have lost load-bearing capacity, plans must be made for partial or complete replacement. Qinglong possesses a mature GRC repair material system and construction methods, ensuring that new and old materials work together in coordination.
Safe reinforcement of the connection system and overall restoration of the appearance are key to success. Rusty steel keels and connectors must undergo rust removal and anti-corrosion treatment, or be replaced with stainless steel components offering better corrosion resistance. Surface treatment after renovation is crucial: through base treatment, putty leveling, color matching, and spraying specialized exterior wall coatings, the repaired areas must be made to harmonize with the original parts in color and texture, achieving the effect of "restoring the old as new." Qinglong emphasizes that renovation is not only technical work but also artistic work, requiring meticulous construction by technical personnel to bring these time-enduring GRC buildings back to their former glory.
