The dosage of high-range water-reducing admixture in GRC is not a fixed value, but the result of dynamic optimization based on multiple variables such as "cement type, water reducer type, target water-cement ratio, workability requirements, and ambient temperature". Drawing on vast experimental data accumulated through 28 years of R&D, Qinglong Group has summarized a general rule: for the most commonly used polycarboxylate-based high-performance water reducers, the typical dosage range in GRC is approximately 0.8% - 1.5% of the total mass of cementitious materials. For example, in the "Wancao Weaving" facade project of the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center, in order to achieve perfect filling of complex textures at a low water-cement ratio, we optimized the water reducer dosage to 1.2% through testing, obtaining excellent workability and strength. Blindly copying a fixed ratio often fails to deliver the material's best performance and may even cause adverse effects.
Different types of cement (sulfoaluminate, ordinary Portland) and different mineral admixtures (silica fume, fly ash) adsorb and interact with water reducers through different mechanisms. For every new project or change of material batch, Qinglong conducts "cement-water reducer compatibility" tests to determine the saturation dosage point (the point at which further addition of water reducer no longer significantly improves fluidity), and typically takes 70%-85% of the saturation dosage as the production dosage. This both ensures a good water-reducing effect and avoids segregation, bleeding, or retardation problems that overdosing may cause.
The dosage must serve the specific process objective. For the spraying process, the slurry needs good cohesion and plasticity retention, so the dosage may be slightly lower; for casting and molding, higher fluidity may be required, and the dosage is increased accordingly. During construction in high summer temperatures, the effectiveness of the water reducer decreases and slump loss is rapid, so it may be necessary to slightly increase the dosage or select a slump-retaining product. Qinglong's automatic batching system can precisely switch dosages according to different preset mix formulas.
Compound admixtures are commonly used in modern GRC production. Water reducers must work in coordination with retarders, defoamers, thickeners, and other admixtures. Through extensive compounding trials, Qinglong's technical team determines the optimal admixture "combination package" and its proportions. For example, when silica fume is added, its enormous specific surface area adsorbs more water reducer, so the water reducer dosage needs to be appropriately increased; when a thickener is used, attention must be paid to the compatibility of the two to prevent flocculation.
The "more is better" mindset is dangerous when it comes to water reducers. Once the dosage exceeds the saturation point, it is not only uneconomical but may also cause severe segregation and bleeding of the slurry and uneven fiber distribution, and may even produce numerous air pores and "water marks" on the surface of components, compromising strength and appearance. Through strict production control and in-process inspection, Qinglong ensures that every batch of mix is in its optimal working state. Scientific and precise application of water reducers is an indispensable technical element of high-quality GRC production.
