The application of BIM technology in GRC engineering projects has evolved from an early “visualization” tool into the core driving force of a “digital twin” running through the full lifecycle of “planning, design, production, construction, and operation & maintenance,” with its value reflected in five dimensions: “collaborative design, clash detection, precision cutting, virtual pre-assembly, and asset management.” As a pioneer in the industry’s application of BIM technology, Qinglong Group has achieved in-depth BIM application in complex GRC projects such as the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One and the Wuhan Han Show Theatre: in the planning stage, BIM was used for conceptual scheme comparison; in the design stage, for parametric modeling and structural analysis; in the production stage, CNC codes were generated directly to drive mold machining; in the construction stage, 4D construction simulation and laser setting-out were carried out; and at the delivery stage, an information-rich as-built BIM model was provided for operation and maintenance. BIM is the “super brain” connecting GRC art and engineering.
Using parametric tools such as Rhino+Grasshopper, the architect’s creative model is converted into manufacturable GRC panel models. Panels are automatically optimized and segmented to reduce mold types, and a unique code, geometric dimensions, volume, weight, and other information are generated for each panel. Virtual assembly is performed to check joint effects and installation sequences, avoiding clashes and errors at the source.
Geometric information in the BIM model can be exported directly in formats such as STP to drive five-axis CNC machines for high-precision mold machining. Meanwhile, model data can be used to automatically generate bills of materials (BOM), guiding raw material procurement and batching. A seamless digital transfer of “model–mold–product” has been achieved, ensuring manufacturing precision.
By combining the BIM model with the construction schedule, 4D construction simulation is performed to optimize hoisting sequences and site layout. On site, the BIM model is viewed on mobile terminals (such as an iPad) to guide workers in positioning and installation. A total station is used to precisely project model coordinates onto the site, achieving “what you see is what you get” precise installation.
In the delivered as-built BIM model, every GRC component carries “ID card” information such as production data, installation date, and maintenance records. The property management team can quickly locate any component through the model and query relevant information, greatly improving the efficiency and accuracy of later maintenance, repair, or renovation.
BIM technology is reshaping the way the GRC industry works. Through full-process BIM application, Qinglong Group has not only improved engineering quality and efficiency, but also delivered to its clients digital building assets that can be inherited and appreciate in value.
