Ensuring the wind-load resistance of double-curved GRC panels at super-high positions (typically referring to heights >50m above ground) is a systematic engineering undertaking involving "precise wind load calculation, connection system reliability, panel body strength, and dynamic wind-induced vibration suppression." Qinglong Group has established a complete wind-resistant design system in coastal high-rise projects such as the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center (roof height 36m, wind pressure 0.95kN/㎡) and the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building (eave height 68m): determining wind pressure distribution through wind tunnel tests or CFD numerical simulation; conducting finite element analysis on panels and connection points to ensure safety under 1.5 times the basic wind pressure; adopting a "back bolt + hanger" mechanical locking connection with a design pull-out resistance of ≥12kN per connection point; and optimizing the aerodynamic shape by installing deflectors. In Hainan, a region frequently hit by typhoons, our double-curved GRC system has successfully withstood multiple severe typhoons. Wind resistance is the lifeline of high-level curtain walls.
For double-curved shapes with complex geometries, the wind pressure coefficients provided by codes may not be applicable. We use wind tunnel tests or computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to accurately obtain the positive and negative wind pressure values of each area of the panel surface, especially the local extreme suction caused by vortex shedding. Load combinations are then performed accordingly as the basis for structural calculations, avoiding underestimation or overestimation of wind loads.
Wind loads are transferred to the main structure through connection points. We adopt a mechanical connection system composed of back bolts (anchoring depth ≥40mm) and stainless steel hangers, and perform rigorous tensile pull-out and shear verification, with a safety factor of no less than 4. For oversized or irregularly shaped panels, the number of connection points is increased and their arrangement optimized to avoid stress concentration. All metal connectors must be treated with anti-corrosion protection.
Under wind pressure, the panel itself generates bending stress. Through finite element analysis, we ensure that the maximum stress is below the design value of the material's flexural strength (taking long-term performance reduction into account). For large-span panels, stiffening ribs are installed on the back to increase stiffness and control deflection within the allowable range (usually ≤ span/250).
For panels with greater flexibility or specific shapes, wind-induced vibration (such as flutter and vortex-induced vibration) must be considered. By analyzing the natural frequency of the panels, we avoid resonance caused by proximity to the dominant frequency of the wind. When necessary, tuned mass dampers (TMD) can be added to the back of panels or the aerodynamic shape of panels can be changed to suppress vibration.
Ensuring the wind-resistant safety of super-high double-curved GRC panels requires rigorous calculations, reliable construction details, and quality materials. Through systematic wind-resistant design, Qinglong Group clothes high-rise buildings in a "windbreaker" that is both beautiful and safe.
