What Are the Base Wall Requirements for UHPC Exterior Wall Panel Installation? Collaborative Work and System Adaptability Design with Qinglong Group

UHPC exterior wall panels are connected to the main structure via a dry-hanging system. The core requirements for the base wall (usually a concrete or masonry structure) can be summarized in four key aspects: "flat and stable, adequate strength, effective waterproofing, and accurate embedded parts." The quality of the base wall is the foundation for a safe, precise, and durable UHPC curtain wall system. Before detailed design, Qinglong Group requires a comprehensive survey and assessment of the base, along with simulation through a BIM model. For areas that fail to meet requirements, we propose remedial suggestions or make adaptive adjustments through the connection system design to ensure the UHPC panels are perfectly "grafted" on. In the Nanning New Media Center renovation project, we assessed the old, uneven brick-concrete walls and successfully completed the addition of a modern UHPC curtain wall by designing a three-dimensionally adjustable steel keel system. The UHPC system offers strong adaptability to various base conditions, but scientific assessment and design are prerequisites.

Flatness and Verticality Are the Foundation of Installation Accuracy

The flatness of the base wall directly affects keel installation efficiency and the flatness of the final finish. We require the base flatness deviation to be ≤10mm/2m (concrete structures) or ≤15mm/2m (masonry structures). Areas exceeding tolerance must be chiseled or leveled with cement mortar. Verticality deviation must also comply with relevant civil acceptance standards.

Structural Strength and Load-Bearing Capacity Must Be Met

The base wall must have sufficient strength to bear the loads transmitted by the UHPC curtain wall system (dead weight, wind loads, seismic action). Concrete strength should be no lower than C25, and masonry structures should be intact without looseness. All post-installed anchors (such as chemical anchors) must undergo on-site pull-out tests to ensure their anchorage force meets design requirements. We perform structural verification calculations for key connection points.

Waterproofing and Moisture-Proofing Ensure Durability

Even though the UHPC system has its own waterproofing construction, the waterproofing and moisture-proofing of the base wall cannot be overlooked. Especially for new buildings, a complete waterproof layer should be applied on the base wall surface. For renovation projects, existing leakage risks must be thoroughly eliminated. This prevents moisture from accumulating in the cavity and eroding the structure or insulation materials.

Accuracy of Embedded Part Positions Affects Installation Efficiency

If embedded parts are used for connection, their position deviation must be strictly controlled (usually center position deviation ≤20mm and elevation deviation ≤10mm). During the detailed design stage, we verify against the as-built drawings of the embedded parts. If the deviation is too large, we will activate a backup plan and switch to post-installed anchors for the connection to ensure reliability.
