UHPC facade systems offer significant efficiency advantages over traditional tiled facades in terms of construction schedule, typically reducing the overall construction period by 40%-60%. This is mainly attributable to four key characteristics of UHPC: "factory prefabrication, dry installation, high precision, and fewer processes." Taking a 10,000-square-meter facade as an example, traditional wet tile application (including substrate preparation, tiling, grouting, and cleaning) usually takes 60-90 days; whereas with a UHPC curtain wall system (including surveying and setting out, keel installation, panel hanging, and sealant application), the construction period can be controlled within 30-45 days. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, we adopted UHPC curtain wall panels with a daily installation volume of 300 square meters, shortening the construction period by nearly two months compared with the original tile scheme, creating enormous value by enabling the owner to put the building into use ahead of schedule. The schedule advantage is one of the core competitive strengths of UHPC industrialized construction.
Traditional tiles require multiple wet processes to be completed on site, such as cutting, mixing mortar, tiling, and grouting, which are heavily affected by weather and involve complicated procedures. UHPC panels complete all high-precision machining and surface treatment in the factory, with only modular hoisting on site—like "building blocks"—converting a large amount of uncontrolled on-site work into controllable factory production. Construction is minimally affected by weather and can proceed around the clock.
UHPC adopts a dry-hanging system in which panels are directly fixed to the keel via connectors, eliminating the need for cement mortar bonding and curing waiting time. Installation is fast, with clear procedures, minimal cross-trade work, and simple management and coordination. In contrast, wet tile application involves multiple interleaved processes, places high demands on worker skills and on-site management, and is prone to schedule delays caused by quality rework.
The dimensional tolerance of UHPC panels is controlled at the millimeter level. During installation, perfect alignment can be achieved simply by fine-tuning with three-dimensionally adjustable hangers, with almost no on-site cutting or trimming required. Traditional tiles involve extensive on-site cutting and complex layout and joint alignment, which easily leads to error accumulation, making adjustments time-consuming and labor-intensive.
UHPC panels undergo surface treatment (such as self-cleaning coatings) before leaving the factory, requiring only simple cleaning after installation. Tiles require special cleaning after installation and are prone to later repair issues such as hollowing and detachment. The high reliability of the UHPC system reduces rework and repair time caused by quality issues at the source.
Therefore, choosing a UHPC facade means not only faster construction, but also a more controllable project schedule, lower on-site management costs, and an earlier return on investment. Qinglong Group's rapid installation system brings out the full schedule advantage of UHPC.
