The grinding and polishing process of GRC decorative panels is the key post-treatment procedure that determines their final surface texture, gloss, and detail presentation. Its core lies in precisely selecting "grinding tools, abrasive grit sizes, process sequences, and dust control measures" according to the requirements of "design effect, substrate condition, and subsequent treatment." Qinglong Group has established standardized grinding processes for different effects such as glossy, matte, and stone-imitation rough finishes: glossy panels must undergo three steps of "coarse grinding (60-80 grit) → medium grinding (120-180 grit) → fine grinding (above 400 grit)", achieving a final surface flatness of ≤1mm/2m with controllable gloss; stone-imitation rough panels use "sandblasting" or "acid etching" processes in place of part of the grinding. In the treatment of the red glossy double-curved panels for the Wuhan Han Show Theatre, we achieved a uniform texture and light-and-shadow effect resembling ceramic glaze by combining robot-assisted grinding with manual fine finishing. Grinding is the final refinement that gives GRC its soul.
Large-area flat surface grinding uses bridge grinders or handheld wet grinders with diamond abrasive pads, offering high efficiency and good flatness. Complex areas such as edges and lines must be meticulously finished with hand tools such as angle grinders and sandpaper. Abrasive grit sizes transition progressively from coarse to fine; each time the grit is changed, the surface must be thoroughly cleaned to prevent coarse particles from the previous step from scratching the surface. We have established a library of abrasive combination schemes corresponding to different effects.
The correct sequence is: first address major flatness defects (such as joint misalignment and mold marks), then perform overall uniform grinding to obtain the desired gloss. For panels requiring coating (such as fluorocarbon paint), grinding to 200-400 grit is sufficient, creating appropriate roughness to facilitate coating adhesion; for panels requiring a mirror-like fair-faced texture, grinding to above 800 grit and polishing treatment are required.
GRC grinding produces a large amount of silica-containing dust, so high-power industrial vacuum cleaners must be equipped to achieve "dust-free grinding" or "wet grinding." The working environment must be well ventilated, and operators must wear professional dust masks and protective goggles. Qinglong Group's grinding workshop is equipped with a central dust removal system, ensuring occupational health and product cleanliness.
Grinding is often carried out in alternation with processes such as repair and coloring. For example, the shrinkage rate and hardness of repair materials must match the substrate, and regrinding to smoothness is required after repair. Coloring (such as penetrating staining) is usually performed after fine grinding to ensure uniform color penetration. We have a team of experienced surface treatment technicians who can perfectly realize the design effects.
Exquisite grinding craftsmanship is the key step for GRC products to move from "industrial products" to "works of art." Through the ultimate pursuit of detail, Qinglong Group ensures that every GRC panel presents its most perfect state.
