The number of layers and configuration of glass fiber mesh (or chopped fibers) in GRC decorative panels are the core factors determining their mechanical properties, crack resistance, and durability; their determination requires scientific calculation combined with experience based on four major factors: panel thickness, panel size, load conditions, and service environment. As an industry leader with 28 years of dedicated expertise in the GRC field, Qinglong Group, drawing on structural design practice from national-level landmark projects such as the Wuhan Han Show Theatre and the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, has established clear configuration standards: for conventional-thickness (15-20mm) flat panels, the chopped fiber spray-up process (volume dosage 3-5%) generally meets the requirements; for large panels (area >4㎡), thin panels (thickness ≤12mm), cantilevered panels, or areas with complex loading, continuous mesh (typically 1-2 layers) must be added, positioned at 1/3 of the panel thickness from the panel face. In the Nanning Wuxiang CR MixC One project, we applied a dual reinforcement system of "3.5% chopped fibers + 1 layer of 160g/㎡ alkali-resistant mesh" to 2.5m×4m hollow-out decorative panels, keeping the flexural strength stable above 15MPa while meeting high hollow-out ratio requirements. Reinforcement design is a balancing art between safety and economy.
According to Qinglong design specifications, thin panels with a thickness ≤12mm should use at least 1 layer of alkali-resistant mesh (grammage ≥145g/㎡) to control cracking risk; when the panel size exceeds 2.5m×1.2m, mesh should be added regardless of thickness to improve overall integrity. For super-large panels (e.g., length >4m), in addition to chopped fibers, stiffeners or densified mesh must be additionally placed at panel edges and stress concentration areas.
Purely decorative flat panels can rely on chopped fibers; however, panels subject to wind pressure, snow loads, or occasional impacts must be fitted with mesh. For components with a cantilever length exceeding 300mm, mesh must be placed at the root of the cantilever and extended to the fixed end. For the ceiling of the wind-and-rain corridor at the Yirui Biotechnology Building in Shenzhen, we adopted double-layer bidirectional mesh and successfully handled the complex loading.
In regions with large temperature differences and drastic humidity variations, mesh can effectively suppress cracks caused by temperature and humidity stresses. In coastal high salt-fog environments, high alkali-resistant mesh with a zirconia (ZrO₂) content ≥16% must be selected. Qinglong Group has accumulated long-term data on fiber durability across different environments, guiding scientific material selection.
More mesh is not necessarily better; the key lies in "precise reinforcement." Qinglong Group's detailed design team simulates component loading through finite element analysis to customize the optimal fiber reinforcement solution for each project, ensuring safety, reliability, and economic rationality.
