Is UHPC Panel Drilling Prone to Cracking? Anti-Cracking Techniques and Qinglong Group's Processing Technology

Drilling UHPC panels does indeed carry a risk of cracking, mainly stemming from their high brittleness and localized stress concentration characteristics. However, cracking can be completely avoided through quadruple control of "equipment selection, process parameters, cooling methods, and reinforcement treatment." Specialized Equipment and Drill Bits Are the Foundation of Crack Prevention

High-precision, low-vibration bench drills or magnetic drills must be used; handheld impact drills are strictly prohibited. Electroplated or sintered diamond thin-wall drill bits are the preferred choice, as their grinding rather than impact action effectively reduces stress. Qinglong Group customizes specialized drill bits with 50/60 mesh diamond grit to ensure sharp and smooth cutting.

Process Parameter Optimization Is the Core Control

Keep the rotation speed between 800-1500rpm, and the feed speed must be smooth and uniform. For panels thicker than 30mm, use step drilling: first drill a pilot hole with a small-diameter bit (e.g., Φ6mm), then enlarge it to the design hole diameter. Apply a constant cooling water flow during drilling to reduce frictional heat and prevent micro-cracks caused by excessive localized temperature rise.

Hole Edge Reinforcement and Quality Inspection Are the Final Guarantee

For mounting holes subject to heavy loads, encapsulate the hole walls with epoxy resin after drilling, or embed fiber gaskets around the holes at the design stage for local reinforcement. After each batch of holes is machined, use an endoscope to inspect the hole walls for hidden cracks. Qinglong Group has established machining process cards to record and trace every key parameter.
