Humid environments (such as bathrooms, swimming pools, coastal areas, and underground spaces) pose severe challenges to the durability of GRC decorative panels, requiring a systematic reinforcement approach integrating "matrix enhancement, interface protection, and systematic drainage" as a trinity. In high-temperature, high-humidity projects such as Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Zhuhai and the Atlantis Hotel in Sanya, Qinglong Group achieved material optimization through the use of low-alkali sulfoaluminate cement, high-zirconia alkali-resistant glass fiber (ZrO₂≥16%), and silane-based waterproofing admixtures, combined with structural treatments such as six-sided waterproof coatings, multiple seam sealing, and back cavity drainage channels. As a result, the annual growth of carbonation depth of GRC panels is kept within 0.08mm in environments with long-term humidity above 80%, with a guaranteed service life of more than 30 years. The key to moisture-proofing lies in blocking water penetration paths and enhancing the material's own resistance to erosion.
For humid environments, low-alkali sulfoaluminate cement with excellent impermeability is the preferred choice. Qinglong Group adds silica fume (≥20%) and high-range water-reducing admixtures to the mix, strictly controlling the water-binder ratio below 0.30, achieving a highly dense matrix with water absorption below 6%. The glass fiber must be an alkali-resistant type with high zirconia content (≥16%), upgraded from unidirectional mesh to bidirectional or composite fiber mesh to withstand multi-directional stresses.
Matrix densification alone is not enough; an active protective layer must be established. We apply "six-sided protection" to GRC panels used in humid environments: all surfaces (including cut edges) are coated with penetrating water repellents (such as silane impregnating agents) to a penetration depth of no less than 3mm, forming a hydrophobic layer. On the back side (facing the interior), a breathable waterproof membrane is added to prevent condensation erosion.
Eliminating water accumulation is the core of moisture-proofing. During installation, ensure the back cavity of the panels remains unobstructed, with drainage holes provided at the bottom. Seams are sealed with mildew-resistant silicone sealant, with properly designed drainage slopes. Qinglong Group prepares a customized "Moisture-Proofing Design Special Report" for each humid-environment project, controlling risks at the source. Systematic moisture-proofing treatment keeps GRC enduring and ever-renewing in harsh environments.
