GRC curtain walls in coastal areas face multiple severe environmental challenges such as high salt mist, high humidity, and strong ultraviolet radiation, requiring systematic enhanced protective measures to ensure long-term durability. As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in the GRC field, Qinglong Group, drawing on hands-on experience from coastal projects such as the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center and Sanya Yingbin No.1, has developed a four-dimensional protection system of "material optimization + surface treatment + structural design + regular maintenance." In coastal areas where the average annual salt mist deposition exceeds 0.3mg/dm²·day, we have extended the design life of GRC curtain walls in coastal environments from 30 years in ordinary regions to more than 50 years through comprehensive measures including alkali-resistant glass fiber with zirconia content ≥16%, low-alkali sulfoaluminate cement (alkali content ≤0.6%), deep silane impregnation treatment (penetration depth ≥5mm), and installation of drainage cavities and drip edges. Inspection after 10 years of use at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center project showed a carbonation depth of only 0.8mm on panel surfaces and a fiber corrosion rate below 3%, confirming the effectiveness of the protection system.
Coastal GRC requires comprehensive improvement of material corrosion resistance. Qinglong Group selects grade 52.5 low-alkali sulfoaluminate cement, controlling chloride ion content ≤0.02%; glass fiber zirconia content is increased from the standard 12% to over 16%, with alkali resistance retention exceeding 90%; quartz sand (SiO₂≥95%) is used as aggregate, and sea sand is strictly prohibited. Silica fume (20-30%) and mineral powder are added to the mix to reduce porosity below 8%. In the coastal area of the Zhuhai Chimelong project, through material optimization, we reduced the chloride ion diffusion coefficient of GRC panels to 1.2×10⁻¹² m²/s and achieved frost resistance of F300.
Silane impregnation is a key protective layer for coastal GRC. We use isobutyltriethoxysilane at an application rate of 400-500g/m², with penetration depth ≥5mm and contact angle ≥110°, reducing water absorption to below 1%. For critical areas, a fluorocarbon coating (dry film thickness ≥30μm) is applied, providing UV resistance of over 3,000 hours. In the Shenzhen Yantian Port project, surface treatment improved the salt mist resistance of GRC panels by 3 times.
Drainage cavities (thickness ≥20mm) and weep holes (spacing ≤1m) are installed to prevent water accumulation; panel joints use elastic sealant (movement capability ≥25%) with backing foam rods; connectors are made of 316 stainless steel or hot-dip galvanized carbon steel. In the Yangjiang Victoria Manor coastal project, Qinglong Group successfully withstood typhoon-induced salt mist impact through structural optimization.
A "quarterly inspection + annual testing" regime is established to check sealant aging and surface coating damage. Silane reapplication is performed every 5 years, and comprehensive overhauls every 10 years. Qinglong Group's protection system reduces the whole-life-cycle cost of coastal GRC curtain walls by 25%.
