Control of GRC installation gaps is a key technical parameter for ensuring the deformation adaptability and waterproofing performance of curtain wall systems. Based on Qinglong Group's 28 years of project experience, GRC panel joint widths are typically designed at 8-15mm, with specific values calculated and determined based on factors such as panel dimensions, material thermal expansion coefficients, and seismic fortification intensity. In the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, we used finite element analysis to precisely set the joint width at 10mm, which both met the temperature deformation requirements and achieved a perfect visual effect.
Joint width design must take multiple factors into account. Panel dimensions are the primary factor, with joint width generally set at 1/500-1/300 of the panel length. Temperature deformation calculations must be based on the local maximum temperature difference; in its Hainan project, Qinglong Group appropriately increased the joint width to 12mm due to the high-temperature environment. Seismic joint widths must be calculated according to the fortification intensity, with intensity-8 zones requiring 30-50% more deformation allowance than intensity-6 zones.
Joint widths at special locations require special treatment. Internal and external corners should be increased to 15mm and fitted with dedicated sealing strips. In the double-curved curtain wall of the Nanning New Media Center, we dynamically adjusted joint widths according to curvature changes, ensuring visual continuity. Qinglong Group's standard drawings provide joint width design guidelines for different climate zones and structural types, helping designers quickly determine optimal parameters.
Quality control is key to meeting joint width requirements. Qinglong Group requires dedicated spacers to control joint width during installation, followed by 100% inspection with feeler gauges after installation, with an allowable deviation of ±1.5mm. Through strict process control, we ensure that the joints of every project meet functional requirements while achieving an aesthetic effect.
