UHPC's toughness is its core advantage that distinguishes it from ordinary concrete. High-quality products achieve fracture energy of 20,000-40,000 J/m², more than 100 times that of traditional concrete. Qinglong Group achieves pronounced plastic deformation before failure through hybrid multi-fiber reinforcement (steel fiber + synthetic fiber), interface modification, and microstructure tuning, controlling crack width within 0.05mm. Improving toughness requires balancing crack resistance and deformation capacity.
Fiber system design is key. Qinglong Group uses a combination of long and short fibers (long fibers of 12-20mm anchor the matrix, short fibers of 6mm suppress microcracks) at a volume dosage of 2-3%. Directional spraying technology raises the fiber orientation coefficient above 0.6, fully exploiting the bridging effect. The addition of synthetic fibers (PVA) further enhances deformation capacity.
Matrix optimization enhances toughness. Polymer emulsion modification improves the bond strength between fibers and the matrix. Controlling aggregate particle size (≤0.3mm) reduces stress concentration points. Bending tests of Qinglong Group products show a distinct plateau in the load-deflection curve, with a ductility coefficient exceeding 5, meeting seismic design requirements.
Toughness must be verified through standard testing. In three-point bending tests, specimens fail with multiple cracking rather than brittle fracture. Owners may request fracture energy test reports from manufacturers, or conduct on-site drop-ball impact tests (a 10kg hammer dropped freely from 1m height with no penetration). In the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater project, Qinglong Group verified performance through full-scale impact testing, meeting wind uplift resistance requirements for typhoon zones.
