GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) installation is a systematic project, and rigorous steps are the key to ensuring project quality. Based on 28 years of construction experience, Qinglong Group has developed a standardized installation process covering everything from detailed design to after-sales maintenance. Taking the Shanghai Qingpu R&D and production project as an example, we have summarized GRC installation into five major steps to ensure seamless coordination at every stage.
The first step is site surveying and datum positioning. Before installation, the main structure of the building must be comprehensively measured to verify the positions of embedded parts and structural deviations. In the Mingyue Lake European Style Town project in Nanning, Qinglong used a total station to establish a 3D coordinate network, keeping the installation error of GRC European-style components within ±3mm. At the same time, the work surface was cleared and safety barriers set up to prepare for hoisting.
The second step is component numbering and trial assembly. Each GRC panel is assigned a unique number at the factory and must be arranged in the order shown on the drawings. In the curtain wall project of Xiangshan Science and Technology Park in Longhua, Shenzhen, Qinglong adopted a 'mock assembly' method, pre-arranging panels on the ground to check joint flatness. This step allows interface issues to be identified in advance, avoiding rework at height.
The third step is hoisting into position and initial fixing. Lifting equipment is used to slowly raise the GRC panels to their design positions, with temporary supports for leveling. For the Han Show Theater project in Wuhan, Qinglong designed adjustable steel frames for 15mm-thick carved GRC panels, ensuring the panels remain stable under wind loads. Initial fixing typically uses bolts or clamps, leaving room for fine adjustment.
The fourth step is precise adjustment and final fixing. Once the panels are in place, a laser instrument is used to recheck verticality and flatness before tightening the anchor bolts. For special-shaped components such as the bamboo-imitation GRC at Hainan Changying Paradise, Qinglong adopted a multi-point hanging system with torque applied in batches to avoid stress concentration. Anti-loosening checks are carried out immediately after fixing, and seismic components are installed.
The fifth step is joint treatment and finished product protection. The joints between GRC panels must be filled with weather-resistant sealant; Qinglong uses polyurethane sealant to ensure elasticity and durability. In the Chimelong GRG ceiling project in Zhuhai, we also added drainage channels at the joints to prevent rainwater penetration. After installation, the protective film is removed, the surface cleaned, and an acceptance report submitted. Qinglong's full-process service also covers later maintenance, such as regular inspection of anchor points, to extend the service life of GRC.
Through these five standardized steps, Qinglong has achieved 'zero complaints' in GRC installation across hundreds of projects at home and abroad, confirming the value of process-based management.
