Recently, Guangdong Qinglong Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. commissioned SGS (SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services), a globally renowned third-party testing and certification organization, to conduct flammability tests on its GRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic, commonly known as fiberglass) component products. The test report shows that the submitted samples completed the standard testing procedures for both the calorific value and non-combustibility, and the data is detailed and reliable. The report number is AJFS1705003142FF_CN, and the issuance date is June 8, 2017.
The report was issued by the authoritative testing organization SGS, and its qualifications are internationally recognized.
The testing organization for this inspection was SGS-CSTC Standards Technical Services Co., Ltd. Anji Branch, which holds CMA (China Metrology Accreditation), CNAS (China National Accreditation Service for Conformity Assessment) and ilac-MRA international mutual recognition qualifications. SGS is a leading global inspection, verification, testing and certification company, and its test reports have wide recognition and credibility worldwide.
The client commissioned this test to China Construction First Group Co., Ltd., and the manufacturer was Guangdong Qinglong Construction Engineering Co., Ltd. The product is used in the Changying Hainan Ecological and Cultural Industrial Park (Dutch Zone) project. The test sample was provided and confirmed by the client; the SGS reference number is GZIN1705022593PC.
Testing Background: Fire safety of GRP materials is of paramount importance.
GRP (Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastic) is a composite material made of unsaturated polyester resin or epoxy resin as the matrix and glass fiber as the reinforcing material. It possesses advantages such as lightweight, high strength, corrosion resistance, and good moldability, and is widely used in architectural decoration, landscape sculpture, theme parks, and other fields. However, as an organic composite material, the combustion performance of GRP is a key indicator for measuring its safety and directly relates to the fire safety rating of building projects. This test was conducted strictly in accordance with two national standards: GB/T 14402-2007 "Burn Performance of Building Materials and Products—Determination of Calorific Value" and GB/T 5464-2010 "Test Methods for Non-combustibility of Building Materials".
Test Item 1: Determination of Calorific Value (GB/T 14402-2007)
Calorific value refers to the heat released when a material is completely burned under standard conditions, and it is an important basic data for evaluating the combustion performance of building materials. The test was conducted using the crucible method, and the specific data are as follows:
- Water equivalent (E): 10.416 MJ/K
- Ignition wire calorific value: 3.1 MJ/Kg
- The total calorific value (PCS) of the three parallel samples were 10.2 MJ/Kg, 10.2 MJ/Kg, and 10.1 MJ/Kg, respectively.
- Average gross calorific value: 10.2 MJ/Kg, equivalent to 122.4 MJ/m²
The test results show that the determination of the calorific value of the GRP component sample was completed under strict experimental conditions, and the test process was standardized with good data parallelism.
Test Item 2: Non-flammability Test (GB/T 5464-2010)
The non-combustibility test is used to evaluate the combustion performance of materials under specific high-temperature conditions and is an important basis for determining whether a material is non-combustible. The test sample size was Φ45×50mm, and the sample was conditioned at 60±5℃ for 24 hours before testing. The test results of five parallel samples are as follows:
| project | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | average value |
| Maximum furnace temperature Tm (°C) | 981.2 | 983.4 | 998.6 | 975.3 | 982.6 | - |
| Final furnace temperature Tf (°C) | 859.7 | 896.7 | 889.4 | 893.4 | 876.5 | - |
| Furnace temperature rise ΔT (°C) | 121.5 | 86.7 | 109.2 | 81.9 | 106.1 | 101.1 |
| Sample mass loss (%) | 59.74 | 61.64 | 63.46 | 62.64 | 62.91 | 62.08 |
| Total burning time (s) | 1703 | 1659 | 1655 | 1679 | 1598 | 1658 |
Non-combustibility testing is an important basis for evaluating the fire performance rating of building materials. This test shows that the combustion behavior of GRP component samples under high-temperature conditions was fully recorded, providing reliable data support for fire protection design in engineering projects.
The value and significance of test reports
The test report specifically states: "The product performance results obtained from this test are based on tests conducted under specific conditions. In practical applications, they cannot be used alone as the basis for evaluating the potential fire, smoke, and toxicity hazards of the product." It also emphasizes: "These test results represent only the tested sample; any minor changes in the sample's composition, thickness, etc., may lead to significant variations in the test results."
This statement reflects a rigorous scientific approach to testing and also serves as a reminder to engineering users that they should conduct a comprehensive evaluation based on specific engineering conditions when selecting materials.
