The environmental adaptability of building materials is the hidden code that determines a building's lifespan. As an industry player with 28 years of deep engagement in the UHPC/GRC/GRG/GRP materials field, Qinglong Group has always believed: there is no one-size-fits-all material solution, only performance optimization tailored to the circumstances. The differences in performance requirements for GRC materials across climate zones are, in essence, a deep dialogue between materials science and regional environments.
1. Climate Zones: The "Performance Proving Ground" of GRC Materials
China covers a vast territory, from the cold temperate Northeast to tropical Hainan, and from the arid, low-rainfall Northwest to the humid, rainy Southeast, and this diversity of climatic conditions poses differentiated challenges to the performance of GRC materials (glass fiber reinforced concrete). During its participation in drafting the Technical Standard for Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) in Buildings (JGJ/T423-2018), Qinglong Group systematically analyzed the influence weights of climatic factors on material performance, among which temperature fluctuation, humidity variation, UV intensity, and freeze-thaw cycles were identified as the four core influencing factors.
2. Analysis of GRC Performance Indicators in Three Typical Climate Zones
1. Severe Cold and Cold Regions: Frost Resistance Is the "Lifeline"
In regions such as Northeast and North China, where winter temperatures fall below -10°C, the primary issue GRC materials must address is freeze-thaw damage. For such climate zones, Qinglong GRC has raised its frost resistance indicator to a strength loss rate of ≤15% after 200 freeze-thaw cycles (far exceeding the national standard requirement of 100 cycles), optimizing the pore structure with a specially formulated air-entraining agent and using low-alkali cement to ensure the long-term stability of glass fibers. Take a landmark project in northern China as an example: its exterior wall GRC cladding panels have withstood five winters without any cracking or spalling.
2. Hot and Humid Regions: The Dual Test of Water Resistance and Mold Resistance
In regions such as South China and Southwest China, where annual precipitation exceeds 1500 mm, GRC materials must cope with both high humidity and mold attack. Qinglong GRC adopts a two-component waterproofing system for such projects: on the one hand, material density is improved by adjusting the water-cement ratio and adding silica fume, keeping the water absorption rate below 8%; on the other hand, a nano anti-mold coating is introduced in the surface treatment stage, achieving a bacterial inhibition rate of over 99%. The GRC decorative components of a commercial complex in Guangzhou have maintained their visual cleanliness and structural integrity through six years of plum rain seasons.
3. Arid and High-UV Regions: Balancing Crack Resistance and Weather Resistance
In Northwest China and plateau regions, intense UV exposure and day-night temperature differences (up to 25°C or more) can easily cause drying shrinkage cracks and surface aging in GRC materials. Qinglong GRC controls the drying shrinkage rate within 0.08% by optimizing the glass fiber content (5%-6% by volume) and adopting polypropylene fiber composite reinforcement technology; at the same time, a UV-resistant coating containing nano titanium dioxide is sprayed onto the surface, bringing the material's weathering resistance to Grade 8 under the ISO 4892-3 standard. The GRC sculpture group of a cultural tourism project in western China has served stably under intense UV exposure for 8 years, with a color retention rate exceeding 90%.
3. Full-Chain Solutions: Climate Adaptation from the Laboratory to the Construction Site
As a national high-tech enterprise integrating detailed design, manufacturing, and construction installation, Qinglong Group has established a full-process control system for climate-adaptive GRC materials: at the design stage, BIM technology is used to simulate the distribution of thermal stress in different climate zones; in production, modular formulations adjust material components according to the climate parameters of the project location; during construction, environmental monitoring is implemented to ensure the installation environment meets the requirements for material performance. This "customized" service model has enabled Qinglong GRC to achieve zero major quality accidents across more than 300 projects nationwide.
The essence of architecture is the harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature, and GRC materials, as the "skin" of a building, have an environmental adaptability that directly affects its safety and durability. Qinglong Group's 28 years of industry experience prove that only by deeply understanding regional climate characteristics and pursuing material innovation and technical optimization can GRC materials demonstrate lasting vitality in different environments. In the future, with the implementation of new standards such as the General Technical Conditions for Non-Load-Bearing Components of Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC), research on the climate adaptability of new building materials will advance toward higher precision, providing stronger technical support for the unity of architectural aesthetics and engineering safety.
