Analysis of High-Efficiency Water Reducer Dosage Ratio and Influencing Factors in GRC

In GRC materials, the superplasticizer acts like a precision “performance regulator”; scientific control of its dosage ratio directly determines the mechanical properties and forming quality of glass fiber reinforced concrete. As a full-chain solution provider with 28 years of deep expertise in the GRC industry, Qinglong Group will analyze the golden rules of superplasticizer dosage from three dimensions: material properties, process parameters, and environmental factors.

The Action Mechanism and Baseline Dosage Range of Superplasticizers in GRC Materials

In the preparation system of GRC (glass fiber reinforced concrete), superplasticizers disperse cement particles through surface-active action, significantly reducing the water-cement ratio (typically by 15%-30%) while ensuring that the fresh mix has excellent fluidity and plasticity retention. According to the Technical Standard for Building Application of Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement (GRC) (JGJ/T423-2018), which Qinglong Group participated in drafting, the recommended superplasticizer dosage for ordinary GRC products is 0.8%-1.5% of the total cementitious materials, while for complex components such as hyperbolic shapes and openwork reliefs, it needs to be raised to 1.2%-2.0% to meet the special requirements of spray forming or casting processes.

Analysis of Core Factors Affecting Superplasticizer Dosage

The composition of cementitious materials is the primary variable in controlling dosage. When supplementary materials such as fly ash and mineral powder account for more than 30% of the GRC formulation, the superplasticizer dosage needs to be appropriately increased by 10%-15%, which is closely related to the specific surface area and adsorption characteristics of mineral admixtures. Experimental data from Qinglong’s production base shows that GRC prepared with high-quality local Guangxi aluminate cement exhibits about 20% higher sensitivity to superplasticizers than ordinary Portland cement, requiring gradient tests to determine the optimal dosage range.

The way glass fibers are added also affects superplasticizer efficiency. The dispersion of chopped glass fibers (3-6mm in length) in the spray process requires higher fluidity, and the superplasticizer dosage is typically 0.3%-0.5% higher than in premix casting processes. Qinglong’s independently developed fiber dispersion monitoring system can optimize the superplasticizer dosage in real time, raising fiber distribution uniformity to over 92% and effectively avoiding strength loss caused by fiber “clumping”.

Dynamic adjustment for environmental factors cannot be ignored. In high-temperature (≥35℃) construction environments, accelerated water evaporation causes the mix to lose fluidity too quickly; it is recommended to increase the superplasticizer dosage by 0.2%-0.3% and adopt a retarding compound formula. Under low-temperature (≤5℃) conditions, the dosage should be reduced by 0.1%-0.2% to avoid excessive retardation affecting early strength development. The intelligent proportioning system developed by Qinglong’s Engineering Technology Center can automatically adjust the superplasticizer dosage according to real-time temperature and humidity, ensuring quality stability for projects across different regions.

Risks and Optimization Strategies for Imbalanced Superplasticizer Dosage

Insufficient dosage leads to poor GRC mix fluidity, with defects such as air bubbles and honeycombing easily occurring during forming, and flexural strength may decrease by 15%-20%; excessive dosage may cause bleeding and segregation, and even weaken the interfacial bond between glass fibers and the cement matrix. Through 28 years of engineering practice, Qinglong has summarized a “three-stage control method”: laboratory trial mixes to determine baseline values → fine-tuning based on sand moisture content before production → dynamic optimization during construction based on component complexity, ensuring the superplasticizer performs at its best.

As a national-level specialized, refined, distinctive, and innovative (SRDI) enterprise, Qinglong Group has always regarded material science innovation as its core competitiveness. From the GRC shaped façade at the Dongguan Women and Children’s Activity Center to the light-transmitting concrete project at Century Plaza on Nanjing East Road, we have achieved a perfect balance between mechanical properties and artistic expressiveness of GRC materials through precise superplasticizer dosage control. Looking ahead, Qinglong will continue to explore the combined application of superplasticizers and nanomaterials, providing designers with green building material solutions that offer greater room for imagination, and fulfilling its corporate mission of “creating aesthetically beautiful architecture”.
