How to Prevent Edge and Corner Damage When Transporting UHPC Components?

Protecting the edges and corners of UHPC components against damage during transport is a systematic project requiring "refined packaging, scientific loading, and secure fastening." Drawing on logistics experience from numerous domestic and international projects, Qinglong Group has developed a mature four-step protection system of "protect, cushion, separate, secure," minimizing the risk of transport damage from the factory to the construction site.

Targeted edge and corner protection is the first priority. The edges and corners of UHPC components—especially sharp angles and thin edges—are the most vulnerable to impact. Qinglong uses customized foam corner protectors or high-strength plastic corner guards to tightly wrap and secure every exposed corner of each component. For particularly fragile large reliefs or intricate ornamental pieces, wooden or steel frames may even be used for localized reinforcement, providing "protective shell"-style safety. The thickness and strength of the packaging materials must match the weight and fragility of the components.

Scientific packing and spacing are key to reducing collisions. Components must never come into direct contact on the transport vehicle. Qinglong uses dry, clean timber blocks as dunnage to effectively separate components from one another and from the vehicle bed. The blocks must be aligned vertically and positioned at load-bearing areas with embedded inserts or stiffening ribs to prevent components from hanging unsupported. Soft cushioning materials (such as EPE foam) are laid between each layer of components. For flat panel components, vertical placement is preferred, effectively leveraging their high in-plane stiffness to reduce deformation or cracking caused by transport vibration.

Reliable strapping and securing ensures safe transport. After loading, components are secured with nylon straps or flexible ropes used with tensioners. Strapping points must be padded with soft materials such as rubber blocks to prevent stress concentrations from damaging component surfaces. Strapping tension must be moderate: tight enough to prevent components from shifting and colliding during transport, yet not so tight as to cause compression damage. For extra-tall or extra-wide components, a dedicated transport plan must be prepared and warning signs installed. Through this rigorous process, Qinglong ensures that UHPC components arrive safely and intact at the construction site.
