Ensuring the structural strength of UHPC openwork components, particularly at their openwork sections, is a comprehensive technical issue integrating "refined design, material reinforcement, and process control." Qinglong Group has accumulated successful experience in projects such as the Ouargla Hotel in Algeria (openwork ratio exceeding 50%), ensuring that openwork components combine aesthetics with sufficient load-bearing capacity and impact resistance through systematic methods such as thickening the openwork frames, optimizing fiber distribution, and installing stiffening ribs.
Optimizing the structural design is the primary measure. For components with a high openwork ratio, relying solely on the strength of the thin panel itself is insufficient. Qinglong's technical team uses finite element analysis software to simulate the stress conditions of components under self-weight, wind loads, and seismic action, and applies targeted reinforcement at stress concentration areas or at weak connection points within the openwork pattern. Common methods include: 1) increasing the thickness of the openwork frame to create a rib-stiffening effect; 2) installing slender connecting ribs inside large openwork patterns to divide large openings into multiple smaller ones, significantly improving overall stiffness; 3) optimizing the geometry of the openwork pattern to avoid sharp interior angles and adopting smooth curved transitions to reduce stress concentration.
Reinforcing the material itself is the key foundation. The high strength and high toughness of UHPC are the prerequisites for realizing openwork components. Qinglong appropriately increases the steel fiber volume content in the mix proportion of openwork components (e.g., from 2% to 2.5%-3%) and preferentially selects hooked-end steel fibers with a suitable aspect ratio, so that an effective three-dimensional randomly oriented fiber network can be formed even within the narrow cross-sections of openwork areas, greatly enhancing the material's crack resistance and toughening effect. Meanwhile, through slurry-casting or spraying process control, the fibers are ensured to be evenly distributed along the openwork edges to avoid agglomeration.
Refined production process control is indispensable. During casting or spraying, special attention must be paid to ensuring that the UHPC slurry fully encapsulates the cores of the openwork mold, avoiding material shortages or poor fiber orientation. Demolding requires extra care, using auxiliary tools such as compressed air for separation. Qinglong's experience shows that, through the above systematic technical measures, even UHPC components with an openwork ratio as high as 50%-60% can meet the mechanical performance requirements of curtain wall systems.
