GRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Cement) and GRG (Glass Fiber Reinforced Gypsum) are two commonly used fiber-reinforced composite materials in architectural decoration. Due to their different matrix materials, the two differ fundamentally in terms of "mechanical properties, application scenarios, and processing characteristics." As an enterprise proficient in the full-chain technology of both GRC and GRG, Qinglong Group aims to help clients make the most appropriate choice based on the specific needs of their projects.
The matrix material determines the core performance. GRC uses cement as its binding material, so it features high strength, good durability, and a high fire resistance rating (Class A non-combustible material), making it suitable for outdoor curtain walls, roofing, and landscape applications that must withstand harsh conditions of wind, sun, and rain. Qinglong's GRC products have been widely used in the outdoor facades of projects such as the Shanghai Qingpu R&D Center. GRG, on the other hand, uses high-strength α-gypsum as its base material. It is characterized by a fine texture, a smooth surface, and extremely high plasticity, making it easy to shape into complex indoor decorative forms. However, its poor water resistance means it is generally used only in dry indoor environments, such as the suspended ceilings of the Zhuhai Chimelong project.
Both have their own strengths in expressiveness and decorative effects. GRG can achieve extremely fine reliefs, sharp lines, and mirror-smooth surfaces, making it ideal for indoor spaces that require high-quality visual effects, such as star-rated hotels, theaters, and shopping mall atriums. GRC appears more rustic and can mimic the textures of natural stone, wood, and more through surface treatments (such as sandblasting, acid washing, and coloring). Its unique "fair-faced concrete" texture is also deeply favored by modern architects.
The physical and mechanical properties differ significantly. GRC has a density typically between 1.9-2.1g/cm³, with flexural strength of up to 18-25MPa and good toughness. GRG has a lower density, about 1.5-1.7g/cm³, and its flexural strength is slightly lower than that of GRC. However, it possesses "micro-elasticity," which allows it to absorb sound energy and provide a certain degree of acoustic modulation, so it is commonly used in concert halls and lecture halls. The key to selection lies in the application scenario: choose GRC for outdoor, humid, or high fire-resistance requirements; choose GRG for indoor, dry, highly decorative, or acoustic requirements. Qinglong provides comprehensive technical support ranging from material selection to design and production.
