The installation of large-size double-curved GRC panels is a systematic engineering task that places extremely high demands on lifting equipment. Successful hoisting relies on the tripartite assurance of "precise equipment selection, a thorough lifting plan, and a professional operating team." As the Qinglong Group, with 28 years of deep expertise in the GRC field and having successfully completed large double-curved GRC curtain wall projects such as the Guangxi New Media Center, we deeply understand that selecting the right lifting equipment is the prerequisite for ensuring the safe and precise positioning of components—its requirements far exceed those for hoisting ordinary building materials.
The selection of lifting equipment primarily considers the weight, dimensions, and center of gravity of the components. Large double-curved panels are often massive in size and irregular in shape, making the calculation of their center of gravity especially critical. During the detailed design stage, Qinglong precisely calculates the center of gravity of each panel using BIM models and designs lifting points accordingly. Truck cranes or tower cranes are typically required, and their rated lifting capacity must have a sufficient safety factor (usually no less than 1.5 times the component's weight). For the double-curved panels in the Nanning New Media Center project, with an area of over 10 square meters and a weight of nearly 2 tons, we selected a hundred-ton-class truck crane to ensure absolute safety during the hoisting process.
The performance parameters of lifting equipment must match the site conditions. Parameters such as operating radius, lifting height, and boom length need to be evaluated in detail. For projects in space-constrained urban areas, a tower crane may be the better choice; in open sites, a high-tonnage truck crane offers greater flexibility. Qinglong's project team conducts on-site surveys before hoisting and develops specialized lifting plans to ensure that equipment performance meets the hoisting requirements of the largest and farthest components. In addition, the equipment must operate smoothly with fine motion control capability, enabling millimeter-level precise positioning of components.
Sling assemblies and auxiliary devices are equally crucial. Dedicated flexible lifting slings must be used to avoid damaging the edges and corners of GRC panels. For double-curved panels, multi-point spreader beams or specialized lifting frames are often employed to adjust the panel's airborne orientation and prevent cracking caused by excessive internal forces from self-weight. Qinglong customizes lifting plans for every major project, and all lifting gear undergoes rigorous verification and safety checks. Experienced crane operators and signalmen are the final link in safe operation. Qinglong insists on using certified professional teams to ensure clear instructions and seamless coordination, achieving the safe and efficient installation of large-size double-curved GRC panels.
