The durability of a GRC facade system is its ability to resist environmental effects and maintain its intended functions over the long term, which must be scientifically measured and predicted through a series of quantifiable, testable physical and mechanical indicators. Based on national standards, industry codes, and 28 years of engineering practice, Qinglong Group has established a comprehensive evaluation system covering three dimensions—"material performance, connection safety, and appearance retention"—to assess whether a GRC system can achieve a design service life of more than 50 years.
Durability indicators of the material itself are the foundation. They mainly include: 1) Flexural strength and toughness: initial strength (≥18MPa) and strength retention rate after accelerated aging tests (such as the hot-water accelerated aging method) (typically required to be >80%), reflecting the long-term alkali resistance of the glass fibers and the protective capacity of the matrix. 2) Frost resistance: mass loss rate (<5%) and strength loss rate (<20%) after freeze-thaw cycle tests (e.g., 100 cycles), measuring the ability to resist freeze-thaw damage. 3) Water absorption: 24-hour volumetric water absorption rate (premium GRC should be <14%); low water absorption means high density and strong impermeability. 4) Dry-wet deformation rate: reflects the dimensional stability of the material; the smaller the value, the lower the risk of cracking.
Safety and durability indicators of the connection system are critical. They include: 1) Corrosion resistance of metal connectors: stainless steel anchors must meet relevant standards, or hot-dip galvanized steel parts must meet the specified zinc coating thickness. 2) Pull-out resistance of anchors: verified by on-site pull-out tests to confirm long-term anchoring reliability. 3) Durability of sealants: their movement capability, adhesion to substrates, and aging resistance (performance retention after heat, UV, and water immersion) are key to ensuring the long-term watertightness of joints.
Retention of appearance performance is a direct manifestation. It includes: 1) Color difference and gloss change: the ΔE value of color difference compared with standard panels after long-term outdoor exposure. 2) Stain resistance: the self-cleaning ability or ease of cleaning of the surface. 3) Surface damage: whether there is chalking, cracking, blistering, or other phenomena. By combining laboratory accelerated aging tests with long-term field observation data from actual projects, the durability service life of GRC facade systems can be scientifically predicted, providing a basis for design selection and maintenance.
