The outstanding impact resistance of UHPC exterior walls enables them to fully withstand impacts from flying debris (such as gravel and branches) commonly encountered during typhoon weather. This safety assurance stems from the material's exceptionally high toughness and strength, as well as scientifically designed connection joints. According to the national standard Building Curtain Walls and wind tunnel testing requirements, curtain walls must withstand impacts of a certain energy level. The UHPC curtain wall panels supplied by Qinglong Group typically offer impact resistance of no less than 10 Joules (J), meaning they can withstand the free-fall impact of a 1 kg object dropped from a height of 1 meter without being penetrated—far exceeding the impact energy of common projectiles in typical typhoons—providing solid protection for buildings under extreme weather conditions.
The material's intrinsic toughness is the foundation of impact resistance. Because UHPC incorporates fine steel fibers at a volume fraction of 2%–3%, its failure mode shifts from the brittle fracture of ordinary concrete to ductile fracture. When subjected to impact, the numerous steel fibers effectively bridge cracks, preventing crack propagation and absorbing substantial impact energy. Even if cracks appear in the panels, they will "crack without shattering and be damaged without penetration," effectively preventing falling fragments—a property that is vital to personnel safety.
The coupled effect of dynamic wind loads and impact requires professional verification. In typhoon-prone regions, UHPC curtain wall systems must undergo wind tunnel testing to verify their structural performance under fluctuating wind pressure. For Qinglong projects in typhoon-prone areas such as Hainan and Guangdong, the UHPC panels and connection systems have all been calculated and tested to ensure that, under maximum wind pressure (e.g., approximately 0.85 kPa for a Force 12 typhoon) and its fluctuations, the panels will not deform excessively or resonate, and the connectors will not suffer fatigue failure.
The reliability of connection joints is key to system safety. Even the sturdiest panels require reliable connections for anchoring. Qinglong uses high-quality stainless steel back-anchor bolts and hangers; the anchorage depth and pull-out resistance of the bolts are rigorously calculated and tested to ensure they will not be pulled out under impact loads or negative wind pressure. The hanger systems are also typically equipped with anti-detachment clips, so that even if the primary hanging points fail, the panels will not fall—forming a double safeguard.
Therefore, a curtain wall composed of high-quality UHPC panels and a reliable connection system offers impact safety sufficient to meet the challenges of typhoon weather. Qinglong recommends that in areas with frequent typhoons, panel thickness be appropriately increased or panel dimensions reduced, and that the curtain wall system be inspected and maintained regularly to ensure its long-term safety.
