The transport securing of large-size GRC panels (usually referring to panels with one side exceeding 2.4 meters) is a critical step in ensuring products arrive intact at the construction site, and its core lies in adopting a systematic solution of "specialized brackets, flexible binding, multi-point support, and stress distribution." Qinglong Group supplied translucent UHPC panels, each with an area of 12 square meters and a weight of over 700 kilograms, for the Century Plaza at Shanghai New World on Nanjing East Road. Through custom A-type steel frames and modular packaging, zero breakage was achieved during long-distance transport. Our securing methods are mainly divided into two categories: vertical transport and horizontal transport.
Vertical transport (A-type frame) is the optimal choice for transporting large-size flat panels. GRC panels are inserted nearly vertically into specially made A-type steel frames, separated from each other by flexible spacers (such as high-density foam or rubber pads), and then bound and secured to the steel frames with woven straps. This method makes full use of the panels' inherent bending resistance, effectively reduces bending deformation caused by transport jolts, offers high loading and unloading efficiency, and maximizes the use of truck compartment space. Qinglong's A-type frames undergo structural calculation to ensure they remain stable even in situations such as sudden braking.
Horizontal transport is suitable for irregularly shaped panels or thick components. Absolutely flat, sturdy pallets or wooden crates must be used as the base; flexible cushion timbers are placed between components, and these timbers must be aligned vertically to form stable load-bearing support points. When binding, a tensioner must be used to tighten the straps to an appropriate force (usually to the point where slight elasticity is felt when pressed by hand); too tight may crush the panel edges, while too loose will fail to secure them. A cover board must be added on the top layer, and the whole assembly bundled with packing straps.
For extra-large or irregularly shaped GRC components, "tailor-made" securing brackets must be designed. For example, for large GRC sculptures or double-curved panels, brackets matching their three-dimensional forms must be fabricated so that the components are "embedded" within, achieving full-enclosure support. All support points in contact with GRC and all strap contact areas must be fitted with flexible corner protectors to prevent edge chipping caused by hard contact and stress concentration. The choice of transport route and the driver's smooth driving are equally important factors in ensuring safety.
