The color difference issue of GRC decorative panels is a common challenge affecting the uniformity of large-scale facade effects, and its control is a systematic project spanning the entire chain of "raw material standardization, production process standardization, construction normalization, and refined management." The root causes of color difference lie in raw material batch fluctuations, mix proportion deviations, differences in curing conditions, and uneven surface treatment. Qinglong Group has successfully controlled the color difference of large-scale projects within a range imperceptible to the naked eye (ΔE≤2.0) by establishing four major control systems: "raw material color card library, standardized formulas and processes, digital color management, and pre-assembly inspection before delivery." In a GRC curtain wall project covering over 30,000 square meters at a large commercial complex in Shanghai, we achieved trouble-free color consistency across tens of thousands of panels produced in different batches and at different times.
Color stability is premised on raw material stability. Qinglong implements "fixed brand, fixed mine source, fixed batch" management for all color-affecting raw materials (especially white cement, pigments, and aggregates) and establishes raw material color card archives. Every batch of incoming raw materials must undergo color comparison with retained samples before being approved for storage. For bulk materials such as cement and sand, we sign long-term supply agreements with premium suppliers to ensure the stability of the color baseline for main materials. This is the first pass in controlling color difference at the "gene" level.
The production process is the main stage where color difference occurs. 1) Precise metering: A fully automatic batching system is adopted to ensure the metering error of key materials such as pigments and cement is less than 0.5%. 2) Uniform mixing: Sufficient mixing time is guaranteed to disperse pigments evenly. 3) Unified curing: Components of the same color are placed in the same curing kiln and cured with identical temperature and humidity curves, avoiding color development differences caused by different curing conditions. Qinglong's standardized production lines ensure a high degree of repeatability in the production process.
Every batch of products must undergo strict color inspection before leaving the factory. Qinglong uses spectrophotometers to take multi-point measurements of randomly sampled panels and calculates the ΔE color difference value against standard color plates, ensuring they are within the tolerance range. For major projects, we conduct "pre-assembly" in the factory, arranging panels from different batches according to the installation sequence for joint visual acceptance by designers and owners under natural light, ensuring the overall color coordination after large-area installation. Only batches that pass inspection are allowed for shipment.
Even with perfect factory control, improper site management can still cause color difference: 1) Installation sequence: Panels must be installed according to factory numbers and pre-assembly order; mixing is not allowed. 2) Site contamination: Finished product protection must be carried out during installation to prevent contamination from slurry, rust, etc. 3) Final cleaning: After the entire facade is completed, unified professional cleaning is required to remove construction contamination and restore the material's natural color. Qinglong provides detailed on-site installation guidance and finished product protection plans, and recommends a final overall cleaning to ensure the best visual consistency.
There is no shortcut to solving the GRC color difference problem; it can only be achieved through a scientific management system and rigorous craftsmanship. Qinglong Group regards color management as one of its core competencies, ensuring that every GRC panel has pure color through refined control of the entire process, together forming a harmonious and perfect architectural facade.
