The "fidelity" of stone-imitation GRC decorative panels is a core indicator of their artistic expressiveness and technical quality, and the standard should be evaluated systematically across four dimensions: "color simulation, texture authenticity, tactile realism, and overall coordination." Qinglong Group believes that high-fidelity stone-imitation GRC should not simply "resemble" stone, but should attain the realm of "imposing grandeur from afar, rich detail up close, and a genuine, natural feel to the touch." In the Century Plaza project at New World on Nanjing East Road, Shanghai, the limestone-imitation UHPC panels we supplied were tested with professional instruments: the color difference ΔE value against natural stone was less than 2.0, and the veining patterns and surface relief were perfectly replicated, achieving an artistic effect virtually indistinguishable from real stone.
Color is the first visual impression. The fidelity standard first requires a high degree of color matching. Qinglong uses a spectrophotometer to measure target stone samples at multiple points, obtaining precise data in the Lab color space. Through a computerized color-matching system, inorganic pigments with excellent weather resistance are selected and blended. The produced GRC samples must be compared against the original stone under a standard light booth, requiring an average color difference ΔE≤3.0 and a maximum single-point color difference ΔE≤5.0 (a threshold barely perceptible to the naked eye). More importantly, the inherent "color variation" and "color veining" of natural stone must be simulated to avoid flat, monotonous color.
Texture is the soul of stone. High fidelity requires precise replication of the stone's veining direction, crystal distribution, color spot patterns, and layering. Qinglong obtains digital texture maps of the stone surface through high-resolution scanning and uses highly elastic silicone molds for three-dimensional transfer, ensuring that every relief and every fissure is faithfully recorded. The joining of textures must be carefully designed so that when multiple GRC panels are assembled, the patterns connect naturally, forming a continuous, unified composition without stiff repetition or visible breaks.
Surface quality includes visual gloss, roughness, and tactile relief. Qinglong achieves this through combined processes: for polished stone, high-gloss molds and polishing treatments are used; for rough, bush-hammered, and axe-chiseled finishes, processes such as surface sandblasting, acid etching, and chiseling restore their distinctive micro-textures. In terms of touch, the depth and sharpness of the relief must match real stone. We often invite designers and owners to take part in "blind touch" tests to ensure the texture fidelity is fully achieved.
Fidelity involves not only the material itself but also its applied effect. The panel module dimensions, thickness proportions, and post-installation light-shadow relationships of GRC panels must follow the conventional practices of stone curtain walls. For example, the deep recessed joints of thick stone and the tight joints of thin stone slabs must be reflected in the design. Qinglong builds large-scale mock-up walls in the early stages of a project, evaluating the overall visual effect under natural light at different times of day to ensure perfect integration with the architectural design intent.
Therefore, the fidelity of stone-imitation GRC is a full-system control project extending from microscopic pigments to the macroscopic facade. Through the combination of artistic sensibility and precision manufacturing technology, Qinglong Group enables GRC to not only resemble stone in form, but also convey stone's natural charm and timeless texture in spirit.
