The connection method between the GRC curtain wall and the main structure directly affects the safety and reliability of the curtain wall system, and requires targeted design based on the building form, structural characteristics, and usage requirements. Through 28 years of engineering practice, Qinglong Group has developed a complete connection technology system, mainly comprising three major types: point connections, linear connections, and surface connections, each of which can be further subdivided into multiple connection methods according to specific construction details. In the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center project, we innovatively adopted a hybrid connection scheme based on different building parts and load requirements, which not only ensured safety but also achieved optimal architectural performance.
Point connections are the most widely used connection method, mainly including two types: undercut anchor connections and through-type connections. Undercut anchor connections work by embedding stainless steel sleeves on the back of high-strength GRC panels and connecting them with special undercut anchors; this connection method is completely hidden behind the panel and does not affect the facade appearance. The undercut anchor system used by Qinglong in the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One project achieves a pull-out resistance of over 8kN per bolt, with a safety factor exceeding 3.0. Through-type connections are suitable for thinner GRC panels, fixing them directly through openings at the panel edge or face, with particular attention required for waterproofing treatment and thermal deformation compensation.
Linear connections are mainly used at panel joints or in areas requiring continuous support, including channel connections and clip connections. Channel connections involve pre-setting connection grooves at the edges of GRC panels, which are connected to the main structure through special aluminum alloy hangers; this connection method allows greater thermal deformation and is particularly suitable for GRC curtain walls on extra-long facades. In the 120,000-square-meter roofing project at the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, we adopted a sliding channel connection system that successfully solved the thermal stress problem of large-span structures.
Surface connections are mainly suitable for thin panel systems or areas requiring special mechanical properties, including adhesive connections and mechanical anchor connections. Adhesive connections bond GRC panels directly to the substrate with structural adhesive, supplemented by mechanical auxiliary fixing; this connection method achieves an extremely clean facade. The special structural adhesive used by Qinglong achieves a bonding strength of over 2.0MPa and offers good aging resistance. Mechanical anchor connections fix GRC panels to the substrate using special anchor bolts, suitable for various complex substrate conditions.
Qinglong Group recommends conducting a comprehensive technical and economic comparison when selecting a connection method, taking into account factors such as the initial cost of the connection system, installation efficiency, maintenance requirements, and service life. Through scientific connection design, the GRC curtain wall can form an organic whole with the main structure, jointly bearing the various effects of wind loads, seismic action, and temperature changes, ensuring the long-term safety of the building.
