GRC's impact resistance is the key advantage that distinguishes it from traditional brittle cement products, giving the material greater safety in use and earlier warning of failure. When high-quality GRC is struck, the bridging action of its fibres creates dispersed micro-cracks that absorb a large amount of energy, rather than failing in instantaneous brittle fracture. Following industry-standard test methods, Qinglong Group dropped a 1kg steel ball in free fall from a height of 1 metre onto test specimens, with the result of "no penetration and no spalling of fragments on the back face". In the GRC artistic partition project for the public areas of the Yirui Biotechnology Building in Shenzhen, this property effectively avoided the risk of personal injury and falling debris from accidental collisions, fully demonstrating its safety value.
Impact resistance is usually quantified and assessed through ball-drop impact tests. Test data from Qinglong Group's CNAS laboratory show that a 10mm-thick high-quality GRC panel, after being struck by a 1kg steel ball from a height of 1m (i.e. 9.8 joules of impact energy), shows only a slight dent and radiating micro-cracks at the impact point on the front face, while the back face remains intact and the specimen stays whole. The impact energy resistance of some high-performance products can even reach over 15 joules. This characteristic of "cracking without shattering and denting without collapsing" provides important safety redundancy for buildings, especially densely occupied places.
GRC's impact resistance comes from millions of glass fibres distributed randomly in three dimensions. When impact occurs, the fibres effectively arrest crack propagation, dispersing the concentrated stress over a wider area. Qinglong uses a robotic spraying process to ensure uniform fibre distribution with no weak zones. Unlike the brittle spalling of ordinary concrete or natural stone, the failure process of GRC is ductile, providing ample warning time.
In actual projects, GRC's impact resistance has been repeatedly verified. For example, GRC wall panels in school and hospital corridors can withstand accidental impacts from items such as trolleys, and outdoor GRC components on the lower floors of buildings can resist natural impacts such as hail. In a school perimeter wall project in Dongguan, GRC met the decorative requirements, while its good impact resistance also enhanced campus safety. When designing products, Qinglong Group recommends appropriate thickness and reinforcement schemes according to the installation height of the components and the risk level of the area, to ensure that impact performance meets service requirements.
Therefore, GRC's excellent impact resistance makes it an ideal choice for interior and exterior decoration projects with high safety requirements. Through scientific material design and strict quality control, Qinglong Group ensures that its products possess reliable impact toughness.
