3D scanning technology plays the core roles of "precise measurement, reverse modeling, virtual pre-assembly, and as-built verification" throughout the full life cycle of GRC shaping, serving as a bridge connecting the physical and virtual worlds. Qinglong Group has deeply integrated 3D scanning into every stage of "design – manufacturing – installation – operation and maintenance": in the double-curved curtain wall project of the Nanning New Media Center, we used tripod-mounted 3D laser scanners to capture point clouds of the existing structure (accuracy ±1mm) and compared them with the BIM design model to identify and eliminate cumulative errors in advance; during the production stage, handheld scanners were used to inspect molds and first-article products to control manufacturing precision; and after installation, a second scan generated the as-built model, providing a single digital asset for operation and maintenance. This technology has improved the overall error control capability of GRC projects by more than 50%. Scanning technology is the cornerstone of GRC Industry 4.0.
For renovation projects or projects that must interface with complex existing structures, 3D scanning is irreplaceable. We use high-precision laser scanners (such as the FARO Focus) to rapidly capture massive on-site point cloud data and generate high-precision as-is models. Serving as the baseline for detailed design, this model effectively avoids installation conflicts caused by civil construction errors. In the renovation of an old building in Shenzhen, scanning revealed deviations of up to 80mm in the original structure, which were successfully absorbed by adjusting GRC panel joints, avoiding large-scale demolition and modification.
In the factory, critical molds and the first batch of components are 3D scanned, and the point cloud data is automatically compared with the CAD design model to generate colored deviation maps. Operators can visually identify out-of-tolerance areas and adjust molds or production processes in time. We require mold surface errors of ≤±0.5mm and critical component dimension errors of ≤±2mm. This full-process inspection eliminates quality problems before products leave the factory.
By combining the design model with point clouds of installation base surfaces scanned on site, virtual pre-assembly can be performed on a computer to simulate the installation sequence in advance and identify potential clash issues. During installation, layout robots precisely project control points from the virtual model onto the site, guiding workers in positioning. In the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, virtual pre-assembly identified 3 major clashes in advance, avoiding on-site rework.
After project completion, comprehensive 3D scanning is performed to generate an accurate as-built model (As-Built Model). This digital twin serves as the authoritative basis for subsequent operation and maintenance, repair, and renovation. Owners can query the production information, installation date, and maintenance records of any component through the platform. We provide digital delivery packages with scan data for key projects, greatly improving asset management efficiency and service life.
3D scanning technology has evolved from an "option" into a "necessity" for complex GRC projects. Through forward-looking technology investment, Qinglong Group has achieved the leap from experience-based construction to data-driven processes, providing clients with more precise, more reliable, and more intelligent services.
