In humid regions, UHPC exterior walls, thanks to their inherent properties of "inorganic composition, ultra-high density, low surface water absorption, and hydrophobic treatability," possess strong mold and algae resistance compared with most organic decorative materials, and are themselves highly unlikely to breed mold. The UHPC panels produced by Qinglong Group keep the water absorption rate below 6% and apply hydrophobic or photocatalytic coatings to the surface, effectively preventing moisture retention and destroying the damp environment mold needs to grow. In numerous projects in high-humidity, high-heat regions such as Zhuhai and Hainan, our UHPC exterior walls have remained clean over many years, with no mold spots or algae growth, maintaining the building's healthy appearance. UHPC offers a healthy, clean choice of building envelope for humid regions.
Mold growth requires organic nutrients. The main components of UHPC are inorganic mineral materials such as cement, quartz sand, and fibers, which do not themselves provide the nutrients mold needs to grow. This is fundamentally different from certain boards containing organic adhesives or wood fibers, suppressing mold growth at its source.
Mold spores need a surface with a certain level of humidity in order to germinate. UHPC's extremely low water absorption rate and hydrophobically treated surface make it difficult for rainwater to penetrate and adhere over long periods, allowing the wall surface to dry quickly and denying mold the necessary damp microenvironment. This is its key physical barrier against mold.
UHPC has a dense microstructure with low porosity and fine pore sizes. Not only is it difficult for moisture to enter, but mold spores also struggle to find pores on the surface where they can attach and hide, and are easily washed clean by wind and rain.
For particularly damp, shaded, or stain-prone areas, we can apply a protective coating containing anti-mold and antibacterial agents (such as certain grades of fluorocarbon paint) to the UHPC surface, providing active, long-term mold protection. Such coatings typically also feature self-cleaning properties, further keeping the wall surface clean.
In the architectural detailing, ensure that the UHPC exterior wall system has good drainage and ventilation, avoiding grooves or dead-water zones where water can accumulate for long periods. Keeping the wall surface dry is one of the most effective measures against mold.
Therefore, choosing UHPC exterior walls in humid regions not only delivers excellent mechanical and durability performance, but also effectively solves the problem of wall mold and staining, reduces long-term cleaning and maintenance costs, and keeps the building looking new for years to come. Through systematic material and structural design, Qinglong Group builds healthy, durable building envelope systems for its clients.
