The selection of adhesive for bonding GRC decorative panels to the substrate (concrete, masonry, steel plate, etc.) is a core element in ensuring safe and durable installation, and must be scientifically matched according to "substrate type, service environment, panel weight, and deformation characteristics." Based on 28 years of construction experience, Qinglong Group recommends systematic solutions: for dry indoor environments and panels of conventional weight, cement-based polymer-modified bonding mortar may be used; for outdoor, humid environments or heavy-load panels, epoxy resin-based or modified silane specialty adhesives must be used together with mechanical anchoring. In an exterior wall renovation project in a hot and humid region of Hainan, we used a flexible epoxy adhesive (tensile bond strength ≥2.0MPa, ≥1.5MPa after water immersion) combined with stainless steel anchor bolts; after years of service, no panels have fallen off. The reliability of the adhesive determines the service life of the finish system.
Before construction, the substrate must be tested for tensile strength (should be ≥0.3MPa), flatness, moisture content (should be ≤6%), as well as oil stains and loose material. Substrates with insufficient strength must be reinforced first. Qinglong's technical service team will conduct on-site surveys and provide a substrate treatment plan.
Dry indoor environments: cement-based bonding mortar may be chosen, which is low in cost and easy to apply. Outdoor or humid environments: epoxy resin or one-component moisture-curing polyurethane adhesives with excellent water resistance and weather resistance must be selected. Areas subject to vibration or large temperature-induced deformation: high-elasticity (low elastic modulus) modified silane adhesives should be used to absorb deformation stress.
Pay attention to tensile bond strength (original strength, after water immersion, after heat aging), shear strength, elastic modulus, working time, open time, etc. We require the adhesive's tensile bond strength to be no less than 1.0MPa on both the GRC side and the substrate side (no less than 1.5MPa for outdoor use). Each batch of materials delivered to site must be accompanied by a type inspection report.
Apply the adhesive using the "spot-and-frame method" or "strip bonding method," ensuring the bonded area is no less than 40% of the panel area (no less than 50% for outdoor use). After positioning the panel, gently knead and press it to squeeze out the air. Mechanical anchoring should be performed after the adhesive has initially cured, to avoid disturbance. Strictly follow the application temperature requirements provided by the adhesive manufacturer.
Bonding is not simply "sticking on"; it is a scientific system. Qinglong Group provides full-process services from adhesive selection and substrate treatment to construction guidance, ensuring that every GRC panel is securely and reliably attached.
