Load-bearing pads are local reinforcement structural measures in GRC components, with the core function of "dispersing concentrated stress, strengthening connection points, reinforcing weak zones, and improving overall stiffness," achieving stress redistribution through methods such as increasing panel thickness or adding stiffening ribs. Qinglong Group's design standards clearly stipulate: a circular load-bearing pad with a diameter ≥300mm (thickness increased by 50%) is required at hanging point locations; a strip-type reinforcement zone (width ≥200mm) is set in the panel edge anchoring zone; and annular ribs (width ≥100mm) are set around large openings. For the double-curved panels of the Wuhan Han Show Theater, we optimized the load-bearing pad design through finite element analysis, raising the tensile strength of the hanging point area by 3 times and successfully supporting the safe suspension of 9,000 specially shaped panels. Load-bearing pads are "way stations" for force flow transmission, ensuring a smooth transition of stress.
Centered on the embedded insert, the panel thickness within a 300mm diameter is increased to 1.5 times, with a densified fiberglass mesh (fiber content increased by 50%). For heavy-load components, stiffening ribs are welded to the back of the embedded steel plate to achieve smooth force flow transmission. We verify through pull-out tests that each hanging point has a safety factor ≥5.
A U-shaped reinforcement band is set within 200mm of the panel edge, with thickness increased by 30% to prevent edge warping. For cantilevered panels, a gradual reinforcement zone is provided at the cantilever root with a length ≥1/3 of the cantilever length. The reinforcement zone transitions to the main panel body with a beveled surface to avoid stress concentration.
When the opening diameter is >300mm, annular stiffening ribs are set around it (width ≥100mm, height ≥ panel thickness); for dense small openings (such as perforated panels), an overall thickening scheme is adopted. We verify the stress distribution around openings through photoelastic testing and optimize the reinforcement scheme.
Local reinforcement is provided at points of Gaussian curvature variation in double-curved panels and at abrupt panel surface transitions, based on finite element analysis results. For the wave panels of the Hainan Convention and Exhibition Center, we installed different load-bearing pads at the wave troughs and crests, perfectly handling wind load variations.
Load-bearing pad design is an intuitive expression of structural logic. Through scientific calculation and precise construction, Qinglong Group gives every GRC component a strong "skeleton".
