Wind pressure deformation performance testing of GRC curtain walls is a key step in verifying structural safety, requiring a comprehensive evaluation that combines "laboratory static testing, on-site dynamic monitoring, and computational analysis verification." In accordance with the national standard "Building Curtain Wall" GB/T 21086, Qinglong Group implements a rigorous testing process in its own CNAS-accredited laboratory and on actual projects: first, wind pressure resistance testing is conducted on curtain wall specimens in the laboratory to observe their surface normal displacement and structural response under positive and negative wind pressure; stress and strain sensors are installed on key projects for long-term monitoring of wind-induced response; and measured data is compared and verified against finite element calculation results. In the roofing project of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, through testing of a 1:1 full-scale specimen, we confirmed that under a wind pressure of 5.0 kPa the maximum surface normal displacement was 12.3 mm (deflection L/325) with residual deformation of 0.8 mm—far exceeding standard requirements—and the system withstood the actual test of typhoon season. Scientific testing is the technical safeguard against wind damage.
In the laboratory, wind pressure resistance testing is performed on curtain wall specimens containing typical panels, connectors, and keels in accordance with the code. Static wind loads are applied step by step up to 1.5 times the design value (P3), observing whether failure occurs and recording displacement at each load level. Qinglong Group requires that under 1.0 P3 the relative surface normal deflection be ≤L/180 and the residual deformation after unloading be ≤L/500. The test report is the core document for verifying design rationality.
For super high-rise, large-span, or complex-shaped curtain walls, after construction is completed, sensors such as accelerometers and strain gauges are installed at key locations for long-term monitoring of their dynamic response under wind loads. We once deployed a monitoring system for the GRC decorative components of a 200-meter high-rise building in Shenzhen and successfully captured dynamic data as Typhoon Mangkhut passed through, providing valuable evidence for structural safety assessment.
Refined models are built with finite element software to simulate the mechanical behavior of curtain walls under wind loads. Calculation results are compared with laboratory test and on-site monitoring data, and model parameters are continuously revised to improve the accuracy and reliability of the design. Through this "calculation-testing-feedback" closed loop, Qinglong Group continuously enhances the wind pressure safety performance of its products.
Wind pressure deformation performance concerns building and occupant safety and must never rely on experience alone. Qinglong Group insists on letting data and experiments speak, ensuring that every GRC curtain wall system can withstand strong winds.
