The material foundation that enables UHPC double-curved wall panels to achieve complex shapes is rooted in four scientific principles: “maximum micro-scale particle packing density, three-dimensional random fiber reinforcement at the macro scale, controllable rheology, and extremely low shrinkage.” Qinglong Group’s 28 years of research reveal: by optimizing particle gradation (continuous gradation of cement, silica fume, and quartz sand), packing density exceeds 85%, forming a dense matrix; adding 2-3% steel fibers (12-20mm long) creates a spatial network that gives the material high toughness and shape stability; controlling rheology (viscosity 150-200Pa·s) ensures complete filling of complex molds; and low shrinkage (drying shrinkage ≤0.04%) prevents cracking during demolding. For the 120,000-square-meter wave-shaped roof of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, we used RHINO+GRASSHOPPER parametric design to keep the curvature change of double-curved panels G2-continuous, and achieved uniform fiber distribution across the curved surface through robotic spraying, creating this world-class landmark. Materials science is the underlying support for complex shapes.
By adjusting the gradation of micron-scale silica fume (D50=0.1-0.5μm) and millimeter-scale sand to fill voids, the slurry acquires “plastic solid” characteristics and can be molded against the form. We use the Andressen model to calculate the optimal mix ratio, balancing flowability and formability.
On double-curved surfaces, fibers are randomly distributed, acting like “micro-rebar” to suppress plastic shrinkage cracks. Through fiber orientation simulation, we optimize spraying paths to ensure consistent mechanical performance at every point of the curved surface.
BIM models directly drive CNC mold machining, achieving “design as manufacturing.” 3D scanning verifies surface deviations (≤±2mm). Qinglong Group has built a seamless chain from digital to physical.
Double-curved surfaces are the crown jewel of UHPC. With materials technology and digital intelligent manufacturing, Qinglong Group brings architects’ boldest creative visions perfectly to life.
