The sound insulation performance of perforated UHPC curtain wall panels mainly depends on three major factors: perforation rate, panel thickness, and rear structure. Their weighted sound reduction index (R_w) typically ranges from 25-35dB, which can meet the requirements of general office and commercial buildings. However, direct use in residential buildings with higher sound insulation requirements (such as apartments and hotel guest rooms, where codes require R_w≥40dB) calls for specialized design. For a street-front high-end apartment project in Shenzhen, Qinglong Group innovatively adopted a composite construction system of “double-glazed insulating glass window + perforated UHPC outer skin + 100mm thick air cavity + interior lightweight wall” for its perforated UHPC curtain wall (30% perforation rate). Through optimization with professional acoustic simulation software, the overall exterior wall achieved a weighted sound reduction index of R_w=42dB, effectively blocking urban traffic noise (65-70dB) and keeping indoor ambient noise ≤35dB, meeting the exterior wall sound insulation requirements for residences in the Code for Design of Sound Insulation of Civil Buildings (GB 50118). The sound insulation of perforated curtain walls can indeed be enhanced through systematic design.
A UHPC panel with a thickness of 20mm and a perforation rate of 40% has a sound reduction index of about 25-28dB. By increasing the panel thickness (e.g., to 25mm), reducing the perforation aperture, and optimizing the hole arrangement (e.g., staggered layout), this can be raised to around 30dB.
The perforated panel serves as the building's “outer skin”, separated from the inner wall that actually provides airtightness and sound insulation (e.g., block wall + insulation layer), with an air cavity of sufficient thickness in between (≥100mm recommended). The cavity can be filled with sound-absorbing material (e.g., centrifugal glass wool) to further attenuate sound energy.
Panel joints, window-wall interfaces, and other locations must be strictly sealed to prevent sound leakage. We adopt multiple sealing measures, such as weather-resistant sealant on the exterior and expanding sealing strips on the interior, to minimize the sound bridge effect.
The sound insulation performance of perforated UHPC curtain walls can meet diverse building needs through systematic design. Qinglong Group, leveraging the combination of acoustic and curtain wall technologies, creates quiet and comfortable indoor environments for clients.
