The method of connecting the GRC curtain wall to the main structure is key to ensuring the safety, durability, and maintainability of the entire building envelope system. It falls mainly into four categories — "component-based connection, unitized connection, point-supported connection, and adhesive-bonded connection" — and must be scientifically selected based on "load conditions, deformation requirements, architectural form, and construction conditions". Through 28 years of engineering practice, Qinglong Group has developed a series of connection systems for different project needs: for the large-span double-curved roof of the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, a component-based connection of "three-dimensionally adjustable steel hangers + sliding supports" was adopted to effectively release thermal deformation; for the modern minimalist facade of the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building, a "stainless steel undercut anchor point-supported" connection was adopted to achieve a clean visual expression; in the renovation of historic buildings in Nanning, a composite "adhesive + mechanical anchoring" connection was adopted to balance safety with the preservation of the original appearance. Connection design is the fusion of structural logic and architectural aesthetics.
A support frame is formed by vertical framing members (steel or aluminum alloy) and horizontal secondary rails, with GRC panels fixed to the framing using stainless steel hangers. Its advantages are clear load transfer, strong adaptability, and ease of on-site adjustment. Qinglong Group's patented "three-dimensionally adjustable hanger" allows fine adjustment of ±15mm in the X/Y/Z directions, effectively absorbing civil construction tolerances. In the Wuhan Han Show Theater project, this hanger system successfully met the installation challenges of a complex double-curved surface.
GRC panels, insulation layers, window frames, and other components are integrated in the factory into a complete curtain wall unit, which is hoisted into place as a whole on site. This method offers fast installation, high quality, and good waterproofing performance. Qinglong Group has full unitized curtain wall production capability and can shorten the construction period by more than 30% on large public buildings. However, it places higher demands on transportation and hoisting.
Stainless steel undercut anchors or floating connectors provide four-point or six-point support on the back of the panel, giving the panels a "floating" effect. This places extremely high demands on the load-bearing capacity of the GRC panels and the precision of the connection nodes. We use finite element analysis to accurately calculate internal forces and embed high-strength sleeves in the panels. In the Nanning New Media Center project, point-supported connections created a unique architectural expression.
High-performance silicone structural adhesive is used to bond GRC panels directly to the substrate. Its advantages are no exposed metal parts and good overall integrity. However, the bonded area and substrate strength must be assured, and long-term durability must be considered. It is usually combined with mechanical anchoring to provide a double safeguard. Qinglong Group strictly selects sealants that have passed compatibility testing to ensure safety.
The choice of connection method determines the "skeleton" and "joints" of the curtain wall system. With deep technical expertise, Qinglong Group can provide the safest, most economical, and most aesthetically pleasing connection solutions for GRC curtain walls of any form.
