Storing UHPC components in low-temperature environments (<5°C) requires focusing on preventing three major risks: freeze-thaw damage, moisture absorption with efflorescence, and increased brittleness. Comprehensive measures such as moisture isolation and insulation, shock-absorbing cushioning, and vertical storage must be adopted. Qinglong Group has established winter storage and transportation procedures for northern projects: warehouse temperature ≥5°C and humidity ≤60%; components are sealed with plastic film and placed vertically on wooden pads (≥100mm above the ground); in regions below -10°C, 5cm-thick insulation wool is added. For the Harbin Grand Theatre project, we customized insulated boxes for UHPC components (with built-in temperature recorders). After 30 days of storage at -25°C, the components showed no frost damage and no loss of strength. Scientific storage and transportation is an extended safeguard for UHPC durability.
Water-saturated UHPC will crack from expansion when frozen, so water absorption must be controlled below 6%. Moisture content is tested before leaving the factory, and components exceeding the limit are dried with hot air. Transport vehicles are equipped with heater fans to keep the cargo compartment above 0°C.
UHPC becomes more brittle at low temperatures. Use dedicated nylon lifting slings (width ≥100mm) for hoisting to avoid knocks and bumps. Stack no more than 6 layers, with soft materials placed between layers.
Components are fitted with temperature and humidity labels that trigger alarms when limits are exceeded. Qinglong Group equips key projects with IoT monitoring, allowing real-time data to be checked on mobile phones.
Low-temperature storage is not simply stacking—it is proactive protection. Through standardized operations, Qinglong Group keeps UHPC components safe and sound, whether in the north or the south.
