A low water-cement ratio (typically 0.32-0.38) is the cornerstone of GRC achieving high strength and high durability, with its significance reflected in three dimensions: “improving density, optimizing interfaces, and enhancing durability.” Qinglong Group's 28 years of R&D data show that for every 0.05 reduction in the water-cement ratio, GRC compressive strength increases by 10-15%, and the chloride ion diffusion coefficient decreases by approximately 50%. In the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One project, by strictly controlling the water-cement ratio at 0.34 and compounding high-efficiency water reducers, we achieved a GRC cladding panel compressive strength of 50MPa with water absorption reduced to below 8%, far exceeding industry standards. A low water-cement ratio is the key process control point for achieving a leap in GRC performance.
Pores left behind after excess water evaporates are weak points for strength. A low water-cement ratio means fewer capillary pores in the hydration products and a denser structure. Qinglong GRC uses polycarboxylate superplasticizers (water reduction rate ≥ 30%) to maintain good flowability even at low water-cement ratios, with compressive strength 3 times higher than ordinary mortar.
A low water-cement ratio reduces porosity to below 10% and refines pore sizes, making the intrusion paths of harmful media (Cl⁻, CO₂, H₂O) tortuous and long. On the roof of the Hainan Convention and Exhibition Center, low water-cement ratio GRC showed a carbonation depth of only 0.8mm after 10 years of use, with an expected service life exceeding 50 years.
An excessively high water-cement ratio causes water films to form around aggregates, leaving the ITZ loose and porous. A low water-cement ratio reduces the ITZ thickness from 20-30μm to within 10μm, making it comparable in strength to the matrix. Scanning electron microscopy shows that the fiber-matrix interface of Qinglong GRC is dense and defect-free.
Controlling the water-cement ratio is the lifeline of GRC quality. Through an automated batching system (accuracy ±0.5%) and strict water management, Qinglong Group ensures that every batch of products achieves the optimal water-cement ratio.
