GRC strength degradation is the core issue of performance deterioration during long-term material use, mainly influenced by four categories of factors: "intrinsic material deterioration, environmental erosion, load fatigue, and construction defects". As an industry leader with 28 years of deep expertise in the GRC field, Qinglong Group has identified the key causes of strength degradation based on more than 10 years of tracking data from national-level landmark projects such as the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater and the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center: corrosion of glass fibers in alkaline environments (the 5-year strength retention of fibers with ZrO₂ content below 16% may drop below 70%), matrix damage caused by freeze-thaw cycles (in northern regions, strength loss can reach 20% after 300 freeze-thaw cycles), microcrack propagation under sustained loads, and early damage caused by stress concentration during installation. In Hainan's high-temperature, high-humidity, high-salt-spray environment, we adopted alkali-resistant fibers with zirconium content ≥ 18% and an optimized mix incorporating 30% silica fume, keeping the flexural strength retention of GRC roof panels above 90% after 10 years of use. A scientific understanding of degradation mechanisms is the foundation for developing long-term maintenance strategies.
Excessive alkali content in cement (>0.8%) accelerates fiber corrosion; high mud content in aggregates or excessive chloride ions weakens interfacial bonding; uneven fiber distribution easily creates stress concentration points. Qinglong Group safeguards material homogeneity at the source through full inspection of incoming raw materials, robotic spraying technology (fiber distribution uniformity ≥ 95%), and strict implementation of steam curing regimes (80°C × 24h), controlling the strength dispersion coefficient within 5%.
Chloride ion penetration in coastal areas, acid rain corrosion in industrial zones, and freeze-thaw cycles in northern regions all exacerbate matrix damage. For different environments, we customize protection solutions: migrating corrosion inhibitors for coastal projects and air entrainment (air content 4-6%) for northern projects to improve frost resistance. In a cultural center project in Shenyang, the GRC curtain wall has withstood 15 years of severe cold with a carbonation depth of only 1.2mm.
Frequent wind-induced vibration or dynamic loads can induce fatigue cracks; welding heat damaging fibers during installation and poorly designed anchor points causing excessive local stress both plant hidden hazards. Qinglong Group provides detailed design services, optimizing connection joints through finite element analysis and supervising installation on site to prevent human-caused damage.
The long-term performance of GRC is a systematic project involving design, materials, construction, and maintenance. Through full-chain quality control, Qinglong Group ensures that every stage contributes to extending material service life.
