The core differences between GRC and traditional cement components lie in three major dimensions—“fiber reinforcement mechanism, material performance, and production process”—which enable GRC to achieve a qualitative leap from brittle material to quasi-ductile material. Traditional cement components rely mainly on steel bar reinforcement and still exhibit distinctly brittle failure; GRC, through the random three-dimensional distribution of millions of glass fibers, forms a “micro-reinforcement” system and displays pseudo-ductile behavior with multiple cracking at failure. Qinglong Group's 28 years of comparative test data show: the flexural strength of premium GRC (15-25MPa) is 5-8 times that of traditional concrete (3-5MPa), toughness (fracture energy 10-20kJ/m²) is improved by 50-100 times, while its weight is only 1/4 that of natural stone. In the “Wancao Weaving” facade project of the Dongguan Women and Children's Activity Center, GRC, with its outstanding plasticity, achieved complex curved forms that traditional cement could never accomplish, with a panel thickness of only 15mm and a weight 70% lighter than stone curtain walls. This leap in performance stems from a fundamental breakthrough in materials science.
Traditional reinforced concrete relies on macro steel bars to carry tensile stress; once the concrete cracks, the stress is carried entirely by the steel bars. In GRC, by contrast, millions of fine fibers (12-20μm in diameter) take effect at the micro-crack scale, forming a distributed load-bearing system. After cracks appear, the fibers spanning the cracks continue to transfer stress through a “bridging effect,” allowing the material to remain load-bearing even after “cracking” and exhibiting strain-hardening characteristics.
GRC's flexural strength is more than 5 times that of traditional concrete, and its impact strength is more than 10 times higher. More importantly, its toughness: traditional concrete has a fracture energy of only 0.1-0.2kJ/m², with sudden, abrupt failure; GRC can reach 10-20kJ/m², with clear warning signs before failure, greatly improving safety. This combination of high strength and high toughness makes thin-walled large panels possible.
Traditional cement components are mostly cast on-site, and their quality is heavily affected by human factors. GRC adopts factory precasting; through processes such as robotic spray-up, vacuum dewatering, and standard curing, it achieves controllable quality, high precision, and high efficiency. Qinglong Group has introduced fully automated production lines from Germany, raising the first-pass yield of products to over 98.5%—something traditional methods cannot match.
GRC's plasticity allows it to achieve forms of any complexity—from faux stone and faux wood to double-curved surfaces and openwork carvings—greatly expanding architects' creative space. In landmark projects such as the Wuhan Han Show Theater and the Hainan Convention and Exhibition Center, the artistic expressiveness demonstrated by GRC is difficult for traditional cement to achieve.
GRC is not simply an upgrade of cement products, but a revolutionary advance in materials science. Through 28 years of dedication, Qinglong Group has brought GRC's performance to the fullest, providing the construction industry with entirely new solutions.
