What Are the Steps for GRC Installation? Standardized Process and Qinglong Group's Lean Construction Practices

GRC installation is a systematic project whose standard steps can be distilled into seven key stages: "survey and layout → substrate preparation → trial arrangement of components → positioning → adjustment and fixing → panel joint treatment → cleaning and acceptance". Through 28 years of project practice, Qinglong Group has refined this process into a replicable, traceable standardized operating system (SOP). In the Luban Award-winning project of the Shenzhen Pingshan High-tech Zone Comprehensive Service Center, we strictly followed this process to precisely install more than 30,000 square meters of GRC curtain wall, achieving the exceptional standard of overall flatness deviation ≤3mm/2m. Scientific installation steps are the bridge connecting design and the physical structure, and are fundamental to ensuring the final effect and construction safety.

Accurate Survey and Layout is the Cornerstone of Success

First, according to the construction drawings, equipment such as total stations and laser plumb instruments must be used to accurately project the installation control lines of GRC components onto the structural substrate. This step must verify the actual deviations of the civil structure and communicate with the designer promptly for adjustments. In the hyperbolic facade project of the Nanning New Media Center, the Qinglong team used 3D scanning and reverse modeling to generate installation grid lines that fully matched actual conditions, laying the foundation for the precise positioning of tens of thousands of shaped panels.

Rigorous Trial Assembly and Pre-adjustment

Before formal installation, trial assembly should be carried out for key areas or complex joints. Through trial assembly, the machining accuracy of components can be checked, the rationality of connection joints verified, and potential interference issues identified in advance. In the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, we pre-assembled the typical panels of each area on the ground, adjusted the joint widths, and marked the relative positions, greatly improving the efficiency and accuracy of work at height.

Refined Installation, Fixing, and Leveling

During installation, work usually starts from datum points such as external corners, windows, or visual centers. The components are first tentatively fixed using adjustable hangers, then tools such as straightedges, spirit levels, and laser instruments are used to finely adjust their flatness, verticality, and joint width. After adjustment, all connecting bolts are tightened to the design torque values. Qinglong Group emphasizes the "three adjustments, three fixings" principle: initial adjustment and initial fixing, fine adjustment and re-fixing, and final comprehensive inspection and tightening, ensuring foolproof results.

Professional and Durable Panel Joint Sealing

After installation and fixing, panel joints need to be sealed. First, backer material (such as polyethylene foam rods) is inserted, then weather-resistant sealant (such as silicone sealant) is applied to the joints. The sealant must be full, continuous, and smooth. In Hainan's high-temperature, high-humidity, and high-salt-spray environment, we impose extremely high requirements on the aging resistance of the sealant and strictly monitor temperature and humidity conditions during application.

Thorough Cleaning and Finished Product Protection

After installation is complete, stains and adhesive marks on the GRC panel surfaces are cleaned immediately, and effective protection measures are taken, such as applying protective film, to prevent contamination or damage from subsequent work. Finally, final acceptance is carried out according to standards, including visual quality, installation accuracy, connection reliability, etc.
