What Methods Are Commonly Used for GRC Curtain Wall Waterproofing? Waterproofing Systems and Qinglong Group Sealing Technology

The waterproofing of GRC curtain walls adopts a triple waterproofing system of "panel joint sealing + cavity drainage + pressure-equalization design", with the core lying in the elastic sealing of joints and the systematic organization of drainage. Based on 28 years of curtain wall engineering experience, Qinglong Group divides waterproofing and sealing into three levels: material selection, structural design, and construction control: panel joints use silicone weather-resistant sealant (movement capability ≥25%), foam backer rods are installed behind the joints to control the sealant profile, drainage cavities and weep holes are designed inside the curtain wall, and the pressure-equalization principle is applied to eliminate leakage caused by wind pressure differences. In the waterfront project of Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, this waterproofing system withstood the test of typhoons and rainstorms, remaining leak-free over 10 years of use.

The selection of sealing materials is crucial. Qinglong Group prefers one-component or two-component silicone sealants with weather resistance of over 25 years and an elastic recovery rate ≥80%. The sealant joint width is determined by calculation based on panel dimensions and thermal deformation, typically 8-15mm, with a depth-to-width ratio of 0.5-0.7. Construction must be carried out in an environment of 5-40°C, and the substrate surface must be clean and dry. We have established sealant application process cards to ensure every step is standardized and controllable.

The drainage system is the guarantee of waterproofing. A cavity of ≥20mm thickness is set at the back of GRC panels, with weep holes at the bottom (spacing ≤1m) to prevent water accumulation. In the Nanning Liyuan Hotel project, we optimized the drainage paths through CFD simulation to ensure rainwater is drained out smoothly. For special parts such as internal and external corners and edge trims, additional sealing measures are required to prevent water intrusion.
