The operation, maintenance and inspection of double-curved GRC curtain walls faces three core challenges: complex geometry, limited inspection equipment, and repair material matching. Drawing on long-term maintenance experience with double-curved curtain wall projects such as the Wuhan Han Show Theatre and the Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center, Qinglong Group has developed a systematic solution of "digital archiving + specialized equipment + customized repair." The curved geometry of double-curved curtain walls makes it difficult for conventional inspection equipment to achieve full coverage; sealant aging inspection at joints and panel surface damage detection both require special techniques, and repair materials demand an extremely high degree of shape matching—challenges that directly affect the long-term safe use of the curtain wall.
Inspection challenges mainly lie in insufficient coverage. The three-dimensional curvature variations of double-curved surfaces create visual blind spots for conventional telescope observation, making tiny cracks hard to detect. Qinglong Group has introduced drones equipped with high-definition cameras and thermal imagers to scan curtain walls in all directions, using 3D models in combination to locate defects. In the Hainan project, our drone inspections uncover more than 20 early-stage hazards on average each year. For joint sealing conditions, we use endoscopes for in-depth inspection to precisely assess the degree of sealant aging.
Repair challenges lie in the matching of materials and techniques. Repairing double-curved panels requires maintaining the continuity of surface curvature, while on-site patching tends to produce visible seams. Qinglong Group has established a repair material database and stocks dedicated repair compounds for each project, with a color deviation of ΔE≤2.0. During the maintenance of the Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One, we applied in-situ casting repair technology so that repaired areas blend seamlessly with the original panel surfaces. For large-area replacement, we retrieve the original mold data and prefabricate new panels at the factory to ensure precise restoration of the shape.
Qinglong Group recommends establishing a maintenance regime of "annual inspection, with a major inspection every three years," managing maintenance records through a digital platform to achieve full life-cycle health monitoring of double-curved curtain walls. Our solutions have been proven effective in real projects.
