GRC offers impact resistance far exceeding that of brittle materials such as ordinary concrete and stone, mainly thanks to the bridging, pull-out, and energy-absorbing effects of uniformly dispersed glass fibres when the material is subjected to impact. When GRC is struck, the fibres effectively prevent crack initiation and propagation, spread the concentrated impact energy over a larger volume of material, and dissipate a large amount of energy through fibre deformation, debonding, and pull-out processes, thereby avoiding catastrophic brittle fracture of the component. According to standard tests, the ball-drop impact strength of high-quality GRC can reach 10-25kJ/m², several times to more than ten times that of cement mortar of the same thickness. This property makes it considerably safer when facing accidental impacts, hail, wind-borne debris, and similar conditions.
Impact resistance is the most intuitive manifestation of GRC's "high toughness" characteristic. Qinglong Group's GRC products optimise fibre length (typically 12-38mm), fibre content (3%-5% by volume), and employ advanced spraying processes to ensure uniform distribution and good orientation of the fibres in three-dimensional space, thereby maximising their toughening effect. Under impact loads, our GRC panels first develop fine hairline crack networks on the back of the impact point; as the load increases, the cracks propagate slowly but do not penetrate, and the component retains its integrity without shattering and falling. This provides a crucial "fail-safe" mechanism for building envelope systems.
This performance advantage is of great significance in practical engineering. For the exterior walls, indoor ceilings, or decorative components of public places with dense foot traffic (such as shopping malls, stations, and schools), GRC's high impact resistance greatly reduces the risk of injury from falling debris caused by accidental impacts. In coastal areas prone to typhoons, GRC curtain walls can better withstand impacts from debris carried by fierce winds. In addition, in fields requiring higher safety levels, such as underground passage decoration and prison walls, GRC is also an ideal choice. At the project design stage, Qinglong Group further customises and enhances impact resistance by adjusting the mix proportion and reinforcement structural design (such as adding stiffening ribs) according to the specific location of the components and the potential risk level, meeting safety requirements in different scenarios.
