The price of UHPC is not a fixed value, but a dynamic outcome determined by multiple interwoven variables such as raw materials, production processes, project requirements, and depth of service. Understanding these influencing factors helps owners make accurate cost estimates and optimize value. Qinglong Group's 28 years of project experience show that the cost structure of UHPC is mainly dominated by four categories of factors: material cost variables, technical process variables, project customization variables, and market and service variables.
Material costs are the cornerstone of the price, accounting for about 40%-50%. Among them, the quality and proportioning of the cementitious material system (high-grade cement, silica fume, mineral powder, etc.), the reinforcement fiber system (high-performance steel fibers or synthetic fibers), and core admixtures (high-efficiency polycarboxylate water reducers, etc.) are central. Using imported highly active admixtures, special fibers, and customized admixtures costs significantly more than ordinary materials. The quality and gradation requirements for aggregates are also higher than those for ordinary concrete. In addition, market price fluctuations, especially in the prices of key raw materials such as silica fume and fibers, directly affect quotations.
Technical process variables are the key to price differences, accounting for about 30%-40%. These include: 1) Production process: equipment investment and energy consumption costs of advanced processes such as vacuum mixing, high-pressure molding, and steam curing; 2) Mold costs: flat-panel molds have the lowest cost, while molds for complex curved surfaces, reliefs, and openwork designs require CNC precision machining, causing costs to rise sharply; 3) Yield rate and quality control: strict process control and testing systems ensure product consistency, but also increase management costs.
Project customization variables are another major factor. These include: 1) Component complexity and dimensions: special-shaped, large-span, and ultra-thin components involve high production difficulty and risk; 2) Performance requirements: raising compressive strength from 120MPa to 150MPa or higher, as well as special performance requirements such as impermeability, frost resistance, and corrosion resistance, all require adjustments to mix proportions and processes; 3) Surface treatment: different decorative effects such as smooth finish, exposed aggregate, stone-like texture, coloring, and light transmission vary greatly in process and material costs. Finally, market and service variables, such as order scale, delivery lead time, transportation distance, technical service support (such as BIM design and installation guidance), and after-sales service commitments, are also reflected in the final price.
