UHPC's toughness is its core advantage over ordinary concrete: high-quality products achieve fracture energies of 20,000-40,000 J/m², more than 100 times that of traditional concrete. Through hybrid multi-fiber reinforcement (steel fiber + synthetic fiber), interface modification, and microstructure control, Qinglong Group makes the material exhibit pronounced plastic deformation before failure, with crack widths controlled within 0.05 mm. Toughness improvement must balance crack resistance with deformation capacity.
Fiber system design is key. Qinglong Group uses a combination of long and short fibers (long fibers of 12-20 mm anchor the matrix, short fibers of 6 mm suppress microcracks) at a volume dosage of 2-3%. Directional spraying technology raises the fiber orientation coefficient above 0.6, fully exploiting the bridging effect. The addition of synthetic fibers (PVA) further enhances deformation capacity.
Matrix optimization enhances toughness. Polymer latex modification improves the bond strength between fibers and the matrix. Controlling aggregate particle size (≤0.3 mm) reduces stress concentration points. Flexural tests of Qinglong Group products show a distinct plateau in the load-deflection curve, with a ductility coefficient exceeding 5, meeting seismic design requirements.
Toughness must be verified through standard tests. In three-point bending tests, specimens fail through multiple cracking rather than brittle fracture. Owners may require manufacturers to provide fracture energy test reports, or conduct on-site drop-ball impact tests (a 10 kg hammer dropped in free fall from a 1 m height without penetration). In the Wuhan Han Show Theatre project, Qinglong Group passed full-scale impact verification, meeting wind uplift resistance requirements for typhoon zones.
