The mold development cycle for UHPC shaped components is influenced by multiple factors such as shape complexity, mold material, and machining process, typically ranging from 7 to 30 days. Based on extensive project data statistics, Qinglong Group finds that simple flat panel molds require 7-10 days, moderately complex curved surface molds take 15-20 days, and highly difficult double-curved or openwork molds may extend to 25-30 days. Through standardized modules, concurrent engineering, and intelligent machining technologies, we have successfully shortened the mold development cycle by an average of 30%. For example, the lantern-shaped molds in the Wuhan Han Show Theater project were completed in just 22 days through five-axis CNC group machining.
The mold development cycle depends first on shape complexity. Simple geometric shapes can use standardized aluminum molds or GRP molds for quick fabrication; complex free-form surfaces require tooling board or resin molds with CNC precision engraving. In the Hainan Changying Universal 100 Park project, for irregular sculptural components, Qinglong Group adopted 3D printing rapid prototyping combined with silicone mold replication technology, compressing trial molding time from 2 weeks to 5 days. Mold size also affects the cycle: large molds (over 3 meters) require segmented machining followed by assembly, which increases working hours.
The choice of mold material directly affects fabrication efficiency. Steel molds have a long service life but slow machining (15-25 days), making them suitable for large-volume production; resin molds have short cycles (7-15 days) and are suitable for small to medium batches. Qinglong Group has established a mold material library to select materials scientifically according to output volume and complexity. Innovations in machining processes have greatly improved efficiency: the introduction of five-axis machining centers enables 24-hour non-stop machining, processing multiple mold sets simultaneously. Concurrent engineering management carries out design, programming, and material preparation in parallel, reducing waiting time.
The key to accelerating mold development lies in early-stage optimization. DFM (Design for Manufacturability) analysis prevents structures that cannot be demolded; parametric design rapidly generates mold data; and a mold library of common shapes reduces the number of new molds required. Through these measures, Qinglong Group continuously improves mold development efficiency while ensuring quality, securing valuable time for the overall project schedule.
