UHPC shaped components, with their high-strength and lightweight properties, achieve significant weight reduction compared with traditional building materials, with an average reduction of 50%-70%. Measured data from Qinglong Group shows that at equivalent strength, UHPC panel thickness can be reduced by 60%; a 20mm-thick UHPC panel (surface density approximately 40kg/m²) can replace 40mm-thick granite (surface density approximately 108kg/m²) or 60mm-thick ordinary concrete panels (surface density approximately 144kg/m²). This lightweight advantage delivers enormous overall benefits in high-rise buildings and long-span structures.
Material performance is the foundation of weight reduction. UHPC compressive strength reaches 120-180MPa, 4-6 times that of C30 concrete, allowing the use of thinner cross-sections. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, 18mm-thick UHPC curtain wall panels replaced the originally designed 30mm stone, reducing weight per square meter from 81kg to 36kg—a 55% reduction. Meanwhile, UHPC density of approximately 2400kg/m³ is slightly lower than that of stone (2700kg/m³), further reducing weight. Fiber reinforcement technology makes thin-walled structures possible, with minimum thickness down to 10mm.
Structural optimization amplifies the lightweight effect. Topology optimization removes material from low-stress zones, achieving efficient load bearing. In the double-curved panels of the Wuhan Hanxiu Theater, stiffening ribs replaced solid structures, reducing weight by 30% while keeping stiffness unchanged. For large components, hollow structures or honeycomb sandwich designs further reduce weight. Through scientific design, Qinglong Group achieves a more balanced weight distribution of components and safer hoisting.
Lightweighting delivers benefits across the entire chain. It reduces loads on the main structure, lowering foundation costs; transport and hoisting costs drop by more than 30%; installation efficiency increases by 50%. In the Nanning super high-rise project, the use of UHPC curtain walls reduced steel consumption in the core tube by 8% and overall cost by 15%. The lightweight properties of UHPC are reshaping building design and construction models.
