A sample is the most intuitive "calling card" of a UHPC manufacturer's product quality, but evaluation should not stop at appearance and simple measurements—a systematic inspection from the surface inward is required. Qinglong Group recommends that customers, upon receiving samples, conduct an in-depth evaluation following four steps—"appearance inspection, dimensional measurement, performance testing, and destructive analysis"—to gauge the manufacturer's true technical level, the rigor of its quality control, and the scientific soundness of its material formulation.
Step 1: Appearance and dimensional accuracy inspection. Under a standard light source, check whether the sample surface has a uniform color and whether there are obvious color differences, air bubbles, cracks, or exposed fibers. Touch the surface to feel its smoothness and flatness. Use tools such as vernier calipers and angle rulers to precisely measure key dimensions of the sample—thickness, length, diagonals, etc.—to verify consistency with the agreed specifications and whether tolerances are kept within a reasonable range (e.g., thickness tolerance of ±1mm). For textured samples, check whether the texture is clear, free of defects, and transitions naturally.
Step 2: Simple testing of basic physical properties. Some simple destructive or non-destructive tests can be performed. For example, test the surface hardness with a hardness tester (Mohs hardness should typically be greater than 6); scratch the surface firmly with a key or coin to see if there are obvious scratches; drop a small piece of the sample freely from a height of 1.5 meters onto a hard floor and observe its fracture pattern—quality UHPC should break into fragments rather than powder, and the fragments should be relatively large, indicating good toughness. You can also conduct a water absorption test: weigh the dry sample, soak it in water for 24 hours, then weigh it again and calculate the water absorption rate. Quality UHPC should have a very low water absorption rate (usually below 3%).
Step 3: Request and verify the test report. Ask the manufacturer to provide an authoritative third-party test report for this batch of samples or for materials with the same formulation. Focus on: compressive strength (whether ≥120MPa), flexural strength (whether ≥15MPa), and the chloride ion diffusion coefficient (whether as low as on the order of 10⁻¹² m²/s). The report should come from a nationally accredited testing center (such as the "National Construction Engineering Quality Supervision and Inspection Center"). What Qinglong Group provides along with the samples is precisely such a comprehensive, authentic, and traceable test report.
Step 4: Internal structure analysis (if conditions permit). Cut or break open the sample and examine its cross-section. A quality UHPC cross-section should be very dense, with virtually no visible capillary pores to the naked eye; fibers (steel fibers or synthetic fibers) should be evenly distributed without clumping; and the aggregate and paste should be tightly bonded. Through this "miniature bonsai" of a sample, you can effectively judge the manufacturer's material formulation capability, mixing process, and forming and curing quality. A manufacturer that is careless even with its samples makes the quality consistency of its mass-produced products highly suspect.
