Density control of lightweight GRC panels is a core technical indicator for achieving building lightweighting, energy efficiency, and construction efficiency, directly affecting structural load optimization and overall cost control. As Qinglong Group, with 28 years of deep expertise in the GRC field, we believe—based on lightweighting practices in major national projects such as the Wuhan Han Show Theater and Hainan International Convention and Exhibition Center—that premium lightweight GRC panels should have a density controlled within 1.8-2.0g/cm³, 20%-30% lighter than traditional concrete (2.3-2.5g/cm³), while maintaining a compressive strength of 40-60MPa, achieving a perfect balance between lightness and high strength. This lightweighting advantage is achieved through aggregate optimization, porosity control, and reinforcement design, providing an ideal lightweight envelope solution for modern buildings.
Aggregate system optimization is the foundation of lightweighting. Using lightweight aggregates such as shale ceramsite and pumice to replace part of the quartz sand reduces the bulk density to 1.2-1.5g/cm³. In the Shenzhen Yirui Biotechnology Building project, Qinglong Group, through gradation optimization (fineness modulus 2.3-2.6) and the incorporation of 30% ceramsite (particle size 0.5-1.0mm), stabilized the GRC panel density at 1.85g/cm³ while achieving a compressive strength of 45MPa, fully meeting curtain wall requirements. Scientific porosity control is also critical: air-entraining agents (air content 4%-6%) form uniform closed pores, which reduce density while improving thermal insulation. This optimization allows lightweight GRC to significantly reduce structural loads while maintaining performance.
Fiber reinforcement ensures strength in a lightweight design. Alkali-resistant glass fibers at a volume content of 2%-3% form a three-dimensional network. In the high-rise curtain wall of Nanning Wuxiang China Resources MixC One, Qinglong Group used lightweight GRC panels 15mm thick with a density of 1.9g/cm³, a flexural strength of 18MPa, and a wind pressure resistance ≥3.0kPa. Compared with ordinary concrete, the load is reduced by 40% and foundation costs are lowered by 15%. The lightweight advantage is even more pronounced in urban renewal projects, such as the renovation of historic buildings in Shanghai, where foundation reinforcement was avoided, saving 30% in costs.
Production processes ensure stable lightweight quality. Robotic spraying distributes fibers evenly, while vacuum dewatering controls porosity. Through standardized production, Qinglong Group keeps the density coefficient of variation ≤5%. Lightweight GRC not only reduces weight but also improves thermal performance, with a thermal conductivity ≤0.5W/(m·K), making it suitable for energy-efficient buildings. These advantages make lightweight GRC a preferred choice for modern buildings.
